All-time teams project
I am making a simple all-time teams league. I found a website with the "all-time team" for every team. I am just importing each player from the database with the year about 5 years after their debut. This way for guys like Jeff Kent I will get one of their normal years and not one of his huge years like 2000, which would make his ratings too good. Right now, I am done the Giants and Yankees, it shouldn't take me too long to finish. Please respond if you're interested. BTW, this will not be as big or as good as Spanky's is going to be, this is just a simple thing that I felt like doing, with about 25 players per team with no free agents.

Sounds interesting though.

OK, I have some more details for you. There will a be teams for every current team EXCEPT the teams from the last 2 expansions ('93-Marlins and Rockies, and '98-D'Backs and D'Rays). There will also be a Washington Senators and St. Louis Browns.

Any chance you could share the link to the "all time team" web site, or is it Top Secret?

www.thebaseballpage.com it's a great site. All I'm doing is importing all the players from these teams into one league.
EDIT: Had a comma in the link Last edited by Boozie1580; 10-27-2003 at 03:27 PM. |

OK, a computer problem delayed this a bit, Reds and Tigers should be done tomorrow and probably Cubs and Indians tuesday. If anyone wants the CSV of an individual team I have done, I can do that.

Hmmm, was just looking at the Rangers one, and I have a few disagreements.
MGR: Johnny Oates 1B: Rafael Palmeiro*, Pete O'Brien* 2B: Mark McLemore+ SS: Toby Harrah, Eddie Brinkman 3B: Dean Palmer, Ken McMullen LF: Frank Howard, Jeff Burroughs CF: Mickey Rivers*, Rusty Greer* RF: Ruben Sierra+ C: Ivan Rodriguez, Jim Sundberg DH: Juan Gonzalez SP: Kevin Brown SP: Charlie Hough SP: Kenny Rogers* SP: Rick Helling SP: Doc Medich RP: Jeff Russell RP: Mitch Williams* RP: Ron Kline RP: Darold Knowles* RP: Bobby Witt RP: Dick Bosman I'd definately have ARod in there at SS over Brinkman. 2B I might go for Julio Franco over Mark McLemore. Other than that, looks pretty solid. |

Yeah, I've disagreed with a couple too. Actually, I just thought of something, has A-Rod played the majority of his career with Texas? Because it said they are only eligible for the team they've played the most games with. I think he probably played more games for Seattle.
UPDATE: After seeing that Spanky's legends are close to being done, I probably won't do an entire league because it willl take too long. I am thinking about just exporting individual teams when people ask for them. Is there any way to export/import a team from league to league besides the buttons on the team setup page, because it seems to me like the team ID numbers (team1, team5, etc.) have to be the same for it to work. Does Pierre's exporter/importer thing work for OOTP5? |

Bozzie's Right - The Legends Are Coming
Quote:
99% of the players are imported into the database - only scrapping for a few extras here and there to balance out the rosters. As you know, roster development is very time consuming especially with regards to the financials - salaries, etc. So far I have 36 All-Time teams (teams with best or near best seasonal winning percentage) with their "core" players for that year on their respective rosters. Now, I'm polishing up each roster with supplemental players as close to the year (plus/minus 10 yrs or so) and with balance in mind. I'm using Bill James Win/Shares as the balancing weight factor. However, without spending a ton more time fine tuning here and there, its a bit of a job to get the weighting factors distrubuted equally - not impossible, just time consuming. So, I'm fudging a little so as not to hold up progress on completing the whole league. For example, I've spent the better part of 2 days just working on the 1917 Chicago White Sox. It turns out, they have an awesome team - fielding, stealing, hitting, and pitching. I'm still going to see if I can "water" them down a little. This is where your talents might better come into play - by "fine funing" the Legends. Remember, each team will have a 40-man roster complete with payrolls. Also, I've managed to get my hands on a bunch of really nice Stadiums and a decent set of logos for each team too. I'll have to configue a few of the Stadiums to work with the league files but that's not hard, just time consuming. Spanky |
