Tips for speeding up Sim

I am in the year 2040 which is about 20 years of simming and I've noticed that over the years the simming engine started to get slower. Does anyone have any tips on how to speed up the sim into the later years?

don't save box scores. upon retiring - click not to save players that never reach the majors to be deleted. i don't save graphs. and you can always purge the database, but that has some issues. One is it changes player ID #'s. So if you have retired numbers on your team - or any Hall Of Famers, when you click on their pictures, you'll get a different person. There is a warning before you purge to make a back-up. i highly recommend to follow that advice.
i also don't use the creation of baseball cards, nor the almanac.
after a while, all games will slow down to a degree just from the mass of saved data and personnel that come and go. But the steps above (that i use anyway) helps somewhat but it doesn't stop the slow down completely.
