Interesting Defensive profile

Found a 1B in my league thats 29 with a big stick (138 wRC+ this year). But... looking at his defensive skill set: (20-80 scale) 65 IF Range, 65 IF Error, 55 IF arm, 40 Turn DP.

Could this guy be a SS or would the Turn DP hold him back? At the age of 29, is it too late? He still has an option year left so could train him in AAA. The only issue is that his bat is too good to pull him out of the majors.

It makes me sad that his owner has never explored him at any other position in his entire career, but could be an opportunity to trade for him and increase his value significantly?

I would likely try him out at 2B if anything, He have a slightly above average arm but with the 40 DP, he probably isn't a SS to me. Maybe if his arm was like 65 I would give him a shot at SS.

I would likely double-check whether he throws lefty or not though. With those numbers, yeah, presumably he should be able to play a decent enough 2B or 3B at least, but if he throws left, then he's just gotta settle for being Keith Hernandez Jr.

He bats Right and throws left. He also has 55 OF Range and OF Error, and a 50 OF Arm. Dude could be a big bat super utility player. The ask is reasonable. Just trying to figure out if it makes sense to invest in a player that’s 29 and would take the rest of the season (we are at the all star break) to teach him multiple positions.

Yeah, throws left means he can't play any of 2B/SS/3B, so that loses some utility function for sure.

Decent enough OF ratings there, but if he's not trained at all there, really hard to say if he'd learn them fast enough to be useful there before the bat declines. Tough call...

Ah yes... good point. That explains why he was never used at those positions. I wasn’t thinking straight. Thanks for making it an easy choice for me!

I've said this before, but I think a really athletic lefty could play 3rd. It would probably be rare enough that actually implementing the AI doing it is pointless though.

From an OOTP point of view, I think if you play a lefty at 2B, SS or 3B for long enough, and they have decent ratings (maybe a higher floor than for a righty) they should be able to get a rating other than '-', even if it's capped at like 1/20.

might be worth it to give him some corner OF reps in AAA or ST to see if he can provide some versatility
