Expansion Draft

Hi guys,

I’m contemplating buying the game but was wondering if what I’m interested in doing is possible first. I’m a die hard Mets fan and am interested in starting in the 1961 offseason and doing the expansion draft and playing from that point. Is it possible to do this, or would you have to start with the historical 1962 roster and go from there?

Unless someone has a work around for this, I think you would have to create your league in 1961, sim that season and proceed to the expansion draft during the offseason. If you create 1962 the Mets roster will already be filled with the actual players from that year.

Suggest that you start the league in 1959 and sim it until the end of the 1961 season then take over the Mets for the draft. You need a few years to build up the number of players.

If you want the explanation of why see this thread

Why not just play with historical minors turned on?

Question in regards to historical minors. Is it true that when minor league teams change affiliations in OOTP, the team losing the affiliation, also loses all the players on that team as well? So say the Toledo Mud Hens are changing from a Twins affiliate to a Tigers affiliate, would the Twins lose David Ortiz if he just happens to be on the Mud Hens?

That hasn't been my experience. I just had to go find them. Typically, they have been demoted to my lowest minor league team. It's kind of a pain, but I just click through them and put them back at the level that they're supposed to be.

Similarly, if minor leagues entirely dissolve as happens to the White Sox farm system between 1932 and 1933, they all get placed on a reserve roster until you get your minor league teams back.

Okay cool. For some reason I thought folks were saying teams lost prospects altogether. So one day you have a guy on the cusp of beginning his big league career and the next you don't. Thanks.

Correct. I like to play historical, taking over expansion teams, which in their early years often have many minor league affiliate changes season to season. You don't lost players, they just get dropped to your lowest-level minors team.

Seems like a good opportunity for a quick-start game.
