Poor results for Mark McGuire in Historical Sims...anyone else?
Most of the time when I play OOTPBB 21 players play close to their potential ratings especially for hitting but I have had nothing but poor results for A's Historical Franchise Sim team with slugger mark McGuire!. His "potential rating" is 4 1/2 stars with a power of rating of 21, contact rating of 10, Eye potential 17 and gap potential 8 however after 98 ABs in my current game made up of the all franchise teams he is batting a mere .164 with 16 Hits 2x2Bs, no 3Bs, 36K's and just 1 HR. I realize in this league batters face most of the best pitchers in baseball but I expected Mark McGuire with his high potential to get better stats than I am getting. It leads me to believe that he has not been rated correctly (possibly contact rating too low) or the game program has neglected to properly enter his data correctly causing him not to reflect correctly his ratings as listed by OOTPBB. If this is the case, is there a way for me to tweak his numbers now to correct him for the game program or just hope now for the next patch to possibly correct his data entry to be accurate for his potential? At this point he is destined to be sent down to the minor league team which makes no historical sense to have ever done this to slugger Mark McGuire. For info I play out as "human controlled" for the A's in my league games if that makes any difference from the AI controlled method.

Try using the Baseball Greats mod from the Steam Workshop.
There is nothing wrong with the ratings for Mark McGwire. What season is your league using? |

I am using this mod called the "All time Greatest". I think it is dated 2014. I have no idea what stats from what year is used for Mark McGuire for that file. I assumed the creator of this file averaged out each selected players career stats to enable him to make ratings for all the players.....maybe not but when you look at his potential ratings/and ratings they appear correct its just that the results when playing him regularly for me make him a struggling player with a .163 BA and 1 HR in almost 100 ABs.
I will check out the "Baseball Greats" mod that you suggest. Thanks for the help! |

It might be a combination of Big Mac's strikeout rate and the competition level of the league. In an all time greats type mod, wheree there are many great hitters, I believe a player with his avoid k rate will get chewed up and have stats like Adam Dunn.
It may just be a small sample size too. 100 ab's isn't all that much. Could just be starting the season slumping. |

He's doing fine in my historical game. Led the AL in homers twice right out of the gate. Note I have development engine on set to 100 randomness, so he isn't necessary the exact same player.
