Earl Wilson imports without a fastball. He has sinker, slider, and changeup and he posts impossible BABIP results.

The game is assigning too much of an advantage to BABIP when a pitcher does not have a fastball and it is perhaps giving too much of an advantage in BABIP to pitchers with certain pitch types like sinkers or knuckleballs and this needs to be corrected within the game so we do not get these results.

Wow, this evidence by Garlon makes it seem that knuckleball pitchers without a fastball are almost superhuman. Question to Garlon, what rating would you give a knuckleball pitcher for a fastball to counteract. Would simply just putting a 1 as the fastball rating solve the problem for now? I notice a high jump in projected BABIP and projected ERA when testing it on 1999 Tim Wakefield.

When adding a fastball to the pitcher repertoire in the editor, I suggest looking at the pitcher total stuff rating before you make any edits because after adding the pitch you want to make sure the stuff value is the same. I think if you average the current pitch ratings before adding a fastball that you can use that value and the stuff rating should remain the same.

My favorite type of game is historical mode. I went back to my 1992 Quickstart and fired it up. I think the problem is that knuckleball pitchers don't have the correct pitches to begin with. Tom Candiotti in real life is listed as having thrown: 1) Knuckleball 2) Curveball 3) Fastball BUT in the game he is listed as throwing a Knucklecurve instead of a fastball. I moved the knucklecurve ratings to fastball and gave him a 0 rating for the knucklecurve. His season seems to have turned out accurately in the sim I just ran. See below for picture evidence:

I found that Earl Wilson imports at 18 feet tall. When I edited this to his actual height his BABIP against returned to something realistic. There are a a few players in the database with this issue, Greg Minton is over 15 ft tall and there are some other players under 5 ft tall too. This should be easy enough to find and correct these problems in the database master file.
