100 Contact Hitter Chris Hanson (Fictional)
Started a fictional league set in 1980 and managed to draft Chris Hanson in the 10th round. He flew under my radar because his potential was only 3.5 on draft day and his overall was 2 stars at the time. In any case, I was lucky to have stumbled upon Chris.
At the age of only 23, Chris has a 100 contact rating and is batting 0.440 after 37 games into the season. He has 69 hits and has shown no signs of slowing down. He's 98 at avoiding K's and a 30 eye. He's currently listed at the 8th top positional player in the league and his injury proneness on everything is a one. Has anyone run into a player with this potential before and if so will this guy be ripping a 0.400 batting average for multiple seasons? |

Hard to say if he'll post multiple seasons at or above .400. But, in my experience, guys with very high contact and avoid K ratings and low to very low eye ratings are sort of "superpowered" in OOTP, which leads to players who put up a very high average.
Because of the low eye rating, he'll swing at a lot of pitches, but the high avoid K rating means he won't strike out much. That means A LOT of balls in play, and with the high contact rating, that means a lot of balls in play become hits, leading to some very high batting averages. I tend to think of these guys as Daniel Murphy on contact steroids. In his peak seasons (2015-17), he had low strikeout and walk rates, and he had very good, not great contact skills. Your guy has elite contact skills, so his average is through the roof. |

I am not in front of my game atm, but I did find a guy who was an international amateur signing by Baltimore who was at AA and they left him unprotected in the Rule V draft, but he was stuck behind 3 other outfielders that were highly rated prospects so I was able to snag him and give him a look because I was an expansion team and had a hole in LF, which he was rated 80/80 defensively. His potential was 80/80 in contact, gap, eye and avoid K's so I was very excited to give him a long look in the spring. Needless to say he made the team as my 4th outfielder but ended up taking over as the starter around the all star break due to an injury to my starting LF and has been the starter for the last 6 seasons. He did reach his potential in all areas but his highest batting average was this past season when he hit .368 and 45 doubles, but has only hit over .310 two other times, the other season had been in the .280s or higher. He has been a very good player for me and bats 2nd and has become a fan favorite and I locked him into a 4 year extension so once that runs out, he will be 33 so I may let him walk if he gets too expensive.
