Moving a saved game
I'm sure this is somewhere, but I can't find it. What is the easiest way to move my save game from one laptop to another. I tried copying the files to a flash drive, but some of the files would not copy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Back up the league to a flash drive or portable hard drive through the game's backup tool (File > Backups > Backup current game). Then just select "restore backup" after you've installed on the 2nd computer. |

How large is the league folder?
If large it can take more than 2-4hr to copy thousands of small files back and forth. Best bet is to get 7zip (free), then zip the folder (5-30 min depending on size). Now you have one large file to copy and paste to your new location. Added benefit is you can update the zipfile as needed for a great backup. https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

If I look at the files, it's under "Data" > "Saved games" > "Name of saved game". Is that the back-up file? It is a 2025 year MLB game from 2020, and is only about 3.0 GB. Is that right? If so, at that size, it seems I could mail that file to myself and save it in the save games folder for OOTP 22. -Cal |

I am literally doing this right now as my old laptop is dying. I copied and pasted my .lg file to a usb drive and now it is transferring the files to the new (less old) laptop. I will let you know how I make out!

So I just loaded the game and it opened up and everything seems to be in working condition. If I run into any problems I can post them here. I must say it did take a about 3 hours. My league is in the 2022 full universe from a 2020 start.

I think most of that time is eaten up by copying almanacs over. I had a 6-year save that I moved from one laptop to another by simply backing up the game on the old computer and restoring from backup on the 2nd computer and it didn't really take that much time (15 minutes?). What this didn't do was copy the almanacs over, which I did days later and took the better part of a day to copy over to my portable SSD drive, and then took about 30 minutes per almanac to copy from the portable SSD to my new SSD laptop.
So if you just want to relatively quickly move your save to a new machine, just use the backup option and worry about the almanacs later when you have some extra time. |
