Mid Season Budget Surplus

Any advice for what to do with a mid season budget surplus?

I made a good trade and had a draft where I spent a lot less than allocated so I have a ton of budget space sitting around. Can't ramp up player development or scouting spend and I'm close to the max anyway.

In real life you'd try to take on a bad contract for either a competing team or a rebuilder looking to shed payroll, but the AI doesn't seem to value shedding payroll even when they are in a budget crisis (can't get them to add any prospects).

Anything else to do? Anybody found deals the AI will like to make with your cash surplus? Playing on the challenge mode settings.

Take salary off a team's hands
Eat the player's salary and trade them for a prospect

I’ve actually noticed the opposite (all default settings), where the AI is almost TOO eager to shed payroll (to the point of offering up some very talented players whom I wouldn’t expect to be on the block. Your thinking on the topic is sound, however. Try the Yankees LOL. They always seem willing to part with contracts, even for middling talent in return.
