Historical with development ON
My settings are 3 year recalc non weighted, injuries on, development on.
In the game career ending injuries will take out players at a young age who historically were stars with long careers. Someone should step in for them. Development can make that happen. Here's someone who did. Second screen shot is game stats, third is real life. |

I remember Britt Burns won 300+ games in a random debut I ran. He was forced to retire in real life due to an injury.

I agree. I think it's cool, because it isn't written in stone how a guy will perform. Burns might win 300, or he might suffer a series of OOTP injuries and see his career come to an end. That's one of the things I love most about this game.

Thanks for sharing this, Brad K. It prompts me to share something I have been mulling over about replays lately. I am a long time sports simulation game player. APBA cards and dice beginning in 1969 and many other computer games over the years since. I have been playing OOTP since 13, but never historical until recently. The old school games were always measured by their realism, as in, are the stats generated as close as possible to what happened in real life? I have to admit, I find myself kind of wondering more and more what is the point of that? With OOTP I have played fictional and current startups and love the experience of not know how it's going to turn out.
For years I have thought about what would be my ideal OOTP setup for a historic replay, but it took me until just a couple months ago to actually do it. My old school brain is so conflicted. For my '72 replay I am the GM for all 24 teams, setting lineups, making roster moves. I agonize over calling up some guy from the minors who in real life didn't make his major league debut until September roster expansion. And guys who are raking at AAA but never played in the majors? Ugh! Anyhow, just thought I would share. Seeing your post, especially the side-by-side with the real-life stats, has me thinking that might be kind of fun. Maybe I should just let go of my old school thinking and let OOTP development take me for a ride. Mike |

My current league is from 1951 through 1997. Mays hit 603 home runs. Aaron hit 597. Joe Adcock hit 518 mostly because unlike real life he had an injury free career. I think all of this is plausible. |

I have a historical simulation project in my mind. I am planning to start with the Milwaukee Braves in 1954 and follow through Hank Aaron's career. I am just unsure about certain settings. Most probably I will sitch off player development, but if you can please share your experience if it makes sense to have injuries and financials enabled.
Or generally if you can share which settings were the most enjoyable for you. Thanks |

Are you trying to maximize his chance of hitting 755 HRs? Or something else?

Not yet clear, I need to think about it. Right now I am playing with the New York Giants in 1921. Player development, financials, coaches, personal traits, chemistry are all disabled, injury is set to low. I might try the Braves as well with these settings.

Can't make a suggestion without knowing what you're trying to accomplish.
You also asked about the settings I find most enjoyable. They are Ratings: 3 year, non weighted, annual recalc Fielding ratings: 3 year Database: Neutralized EDIT March 12 2021: After a discussion with Garlon on another thread I'm using non neutralized (real) stats. Garlon says the stats neutralize against the era_ballparks file and using neutralized stats means double neutralization. Development: On Finances: Free agency, visiting team 30% or 35% of gate Draft: Off Rookies: To historical team Injuries: Game default for the year Trading: Very hard Payroll: Personal rule to limit to a bit more than median Not strict. Low years compensate for high years. Mode: GM/Manager Scouting: On, average accuracy Personality etc: Off Starting point: Start game 3-4 years before I want to enter as GM and let AI run everything. This provides a decent supply of extra players when I enter the game. DH: No Expansion: Historical but stop at 28 teams. League alignment: Four Divisions 1969 and on Wild cards: No Interleague: No. Last edited by Brad K; 03-12-2021 at 09:51 AM. |

Check the Mods forum to see if there's something you want.
I'm only interested in photos of my players. I get a lot of them at baseball-reference.com. They need to be resized to 85 x 135. If a player historically played for my team but his Baseball reference isn't that team I can often find a photo of him in the right uniform using google photo search. EDIT: Correct photo size for OOTP is 90 x 135. Last edited by Brad K; 12-26-2020 at 11:26 PM. |

If by some chance you're interested in playing the Pirates 1954 - 2002 I have photos of most players who started their career as Pirates and some who played for the Pirates later in their career. Also some like Korince who never played for the Pirates but did in my game so they are in another uniform.

Just one thing on that: You might want to then set Position Player Fatigue to High or Very High, else you will end up with too many players playing all 154 games, or close to it.

Baseball Reference has tight face shots.
Photos from elsewhere its usually not. Adrian Brown, Bert Blyleven, and GM Anne Bonny (I wanted a real pirate running the team!!!). |

I started the game in 1951. I took over the team in 1954. I've just completed the 2002 season. I will end the game when Barry Bonds retires. So I will have covered in the game the entire careers of Mays, Aaron, and Bonds.
What kind of records do you want? Due to the length of the game it takes multiple screen shots. First is team records. Second is GM records. |
