Assists / Playmakers
One of the most annoying things in most hockey games is the poor way they simulate playmaking and generating assists. Playmakers like Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid and even less elite playmakers never seem to consistently maintain anything near their irl production ratios G v A.
FHM has gotten better, but I think the sim engine still thinks that a highly talented player is more likely to score than pass (whereas historically the opposite is predominantly true). Has anything been done in FHM7 to improve this? EDIT: I think FHM tends to favour D-men a bit too much for assists which drains some from forwards as well. So actual substantial questions about the sim engine need not apply.
Maybe i should have asked about the colours on the login screen... |

I mean, I'm not a member of the dev team, so I can't say for sure, however being someone who knows too much about simulation and statistics; there is only so much they can do about how a top tier player produces/how certain player types play. And you see in games that the stats represent how good they are at certain things in the game, such as passing. So while a player may be primarily a playmaker, such as Crosby in his first few years, the elite players are good at multiple aspects of the game, and as such other stats tend to overshadow how good a player is at certain things. For playmaking specifically, the amount of assists a player gets also deals with the quality of the players surrounding said player. Due to this, if the elite player is better at shooting/ better shooting accuracy or offensive awareness, they, in a simulation, would likely tend to try to score themselves as opposed to passing due to the difference between them and their line mates. So effectively what I'm saying here is that they would have either needed to increase the effect that pass/shoot tendency has on player performance, or change the way the simulation works. With the new 2D simulation, I would hazard a guess that there has been changes to how players play. However I would say that it likely won't be enough to make players be the kinds of playmakers you see in real life.
What I could guess with some accuracy is that tactics play a major role in how players perform. So in your current games, it may be helpful to either increase coaching attributes on your opponents coaches, or, better use your tactics to try to force the sort of performances you want. |

Excuse us if we can't answer every question in a timely matter right now. I don't want to give you bad information, so I was not going to answer. Patience is key. Posting to inflame the community is not a good way to go about getting an answer however. Last edited by Adam B; 12-11-2020 at 01:30 AM. |

This is like a baseball game where RBIs are off (where no one ever gets 100 RBIs for instance, ie An 8th hitting wet newspaper guy gets the same RBIs as Hack Wilson in his prime). This is core stuff. It doesn't get more core than Goals, Assists, Save%, PIM and handful other stats. IF you aren't moving hell and earth to get it right, then you aren't really building a hockey "sim"(*). (*) For the record, I don't even think that's true, but Adam's flame war baiting tactics as usual make the team look terrible... |

The problem is your follow-up and your second follow-up so now I'm going to lock this topic and not give it a second thought. People are free to ask questions at any point whether they be easy or tough. All I ask is things are done respectfully and the moment you post something like Quote:
The fact you can't see that means we have nothing more to discuss in this thread. Last edited by Adam B; 12-13-2020 at 01:50 AM. |
