Question Creating a Massive Fictional League

Hello!
I'm new to the forums but have been a long time baseball and OOTP fan for a while. I wasn't sure where to post this, but I have questions about mass-creating a lot of players. I have run a fictional league outside of OOTP for close to 10 years, first on paper then swapped over to google drive. I was looking into moving the league into OOTP (I currently have XX) but I'm not sure if there's an easy way to create players. I'm not sure if I'd be able to sit and edit a text document with thousands of players and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks! Very sorry if this is confusing.

yes you can create players and edit their numbers. That's done with the import/create player function. It's pretty easy - just need to pay attention to a few parameters on the first couple of pages of the creation screen. It won't be a text document you're editing through, just individual players. (You can mass import players that are already in the OOTP database. With that you can create a text file and import bunches of players. However, if they are already in the database and you import them, any edits you do to those players will be undone at the end of any given year. To get the changes to stick, you need to clone the player (which will remove his historical ID #) and then delete the historical player to edit the clone. Those edits will stick.)

Pretty much from what i can gather (which may be wrong) you'll need to create fictional players, edit their names, birthplace, race ,etc and then edit their numbers for offense and defense. All that can be done, but it will be time consuming. i basically do something like that each season for the draft, editing every player to raise the level of talent a bit. When the draft is around 1300 players, it takes me at least 8 days. So, your project is doable, i believe if i understand correctly, but it will be time consuming.

Hope this helps a bit. Best of luck.

I've had my EBL vs MLB league since 1992. Started on Tony Larussa 2. Eventually went to Hardball2 -4 then to High heat 99-2001. in 2010 i rediscovered OOTP. The easiest thing I found was to start all over and use OOTP as the gospel vs trying to edit 2 ML's and all their minor leagues worth of players stats. I am still not sure how to add history to a player like i could do with the High Heat editor. I am basically up to date on my league that i started on OOTP 11, re-did for OOTP 13 and have been playing it since.
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=235764

How i started it on OOTP was modern 1999 MLB historical league and addded my endor league in 2003 and various leagues and teams since. i hand edit players and stats each January in game. i just edited 358 players in 11 days which is my personal best, although that was just the rookie draft.I no longer hand edit current players in January.

Maybe someone else can tell you how to add stats to existing players easily. I couldn't figure it out so i started over.

I am really glad after 8 years real time that i did. i have been able to do so much more then i was able to on the other games. I have 4 leagues running at the same time vs have 2-3 different saves or having one league run in my mind. I have as i said MLB 1999, EBL 2003, Illinois Baseball League 2024 & the new Universal Baseball League 2035. i have had the Corsuscant League 2005-2027 and the Nippon league 2012-2034. i have flags for all my planets or nations i have logos & jerseys that were once ideas in my head or drawn by people in 1997.

i can help you get started but yes its extremely time consuming and tedious to do it the way i have for the last 10 years. Took me 6 months editing a text file to add all my nations, cities, school , etc. Now its in a different form. Now i know how to edit that but that took me 6 months through trial and error to master.

not all my players in my league are hand edited but 2003-225 i';d say 95 % were. I have logs from my real 2020 season through 2036 in binders of trades, injuries etc and i at times will run all teams and make Commish trades.I can talk about this all day. i love it and i am an OOTP addict.

i once tried editing the .csv files for players to get past stats and influence the future. Was a nightmare and not worth the effort and the way i did it - didn't work. so i did just what you did - started over and went from there. i don't think there is a good way to edit stats, just the modifiers when you create players.

i think the longer i play this game, i actually spend more time tweaking teams, personnel and leagues than i do actually simming the games. And i find it's more enjoyable for me that way. Strange i suppose.

i had a real early version (on floppy disk) - Season Ticket (c) 2001 that i played to death. When that computer died, a lot else was happening in life - i lost track of the game. about 8 years later i found Tony Larrusa Baseball - and played that for a couple of years. What i loved was i could create players! then i discovered OOTP 14 and was blown away by the customization. And been hooked since, even joined the Beta Team when i found out they were adding Negro Leagues and Minors. Yep, i think lots of us are addicts to this wonderful maddness!

What are you using to save your league in Google docs? Sheets?
