Updating Alltimers League for OOTP21 ...
Hey guys, newish member here and I'll get right into my situation and questions.
I've been doing this computer baseball stuff since microleague on 2e and Earl Weaver Baseball on IBM, and everything in between (TL2 baseball and High Heat 2K are favorites, along with Front Page Sports baseball 96). A few years ago I started using CW's alltimers league to make an alltime roster on MLB the show (PS3) for my own personal use. I have a great system for converting stats (across many eras) into neutral/modern ratings (which I think is awesome) ... sort of creating 2020 versions of past players that don't result in Cobb and Lajoie hitting .420 and Christy Mathewson and Jack Chesbro battling with Gibson for the CYA, even though Pedro, Kershaw, Johnson are better pitchers (using ERA+, ERA-, etc). Presently I have a spreadhseet of ~3K players with OOTP ratings and all of the stats (from Fanfgraphs), and I'm working on merging the 2 spreadsheets into one, so I have one file with ratings and stats ... so I can use the stats to convert into ratings in the correct proportions (given the games, max-avr-low ratings, so the game plays as intended and allof the players don't have ridiculous ratings. I've done the rating/rosters for MLB The Show before and I understand that whole process of import/export players, managing rosters, etc. But, since I have all of these players in a spreadsheet it seems like it wouldn't be that much more work to move into making the alltimers rosters for OOTP21. I'm not quite sure about how I would break up the teams, or if I would just use the 30 teams, and let the chips fall where they may. I'm not the biggest fan of negro league and pre-1901 players (for neutralized stat situations) because the stats from the eras are so limited ... and it's a lot of guesswork (or legend making, so to speak). Okay, so what I'm asking is if someone can pointme in the right direction toward the steps I would need to take in order to turn player ratings (all of the ones needed for OOTP) from a spreadsheet into something that would work really well for OOTP21 ... to produce a roster set of alltime players that would be scaled to the MLB average (and average ratings in OOTP21, not one's ratings exceeding the max ... to allow for development) to produce interesting and realistic results. I would like to eventually end up with something with accurate facegens, logos, unis, etc ... all that. Thanks in advance for your help. In short my question is: I have all the updated players/ratings in a spreadsheet ... how do I go about getting them into the format that OOTP needs for the game to work as designed? |

I think I have a pretty good idea, and a sound system for creating "modern versions" of all players, using their actual stats compared to league average (the "+" stats), and then a good formula for converting to those stats into ratings, that are proportional to the game's ratings ... so that the game still plays as intended (as opposed to having everyone with all 90s and 80s as ratings).
I have much of that done already. That's the "fun part" (aside from all of the spreadsheet merging, proofing, checking for duplicates, and all that nonsense) The players ratings will look much like player ratings in a typical MLB season, and I'll have everyone as a 20yo version off their "modern self" and let the alltime greats battle it out as the develop over their careers. So, I have these ratings and stats in an excel spreadsheet ... but I'm unsure of how to get them into the game, while making sure all the id's are correct, so they match up with the facegens everyone has created, etc. [1] Do I export the information from the game and into notepad (comma-delineated), and then edit that itself? Or copy excel ratings/stats into note pad and then copy and paste players, making sure the format is the same? Then import that back into the game? [2] Do you import ratings or stats? (I have both) [3] Or do I have to edit players in the game itself? Those are my issues/questions. How do I get the information from the spreadsheets into the game itself? And what are the key issues I need to avoid? Most of the work is already done. Thanks in advance. I'll keep looking for "how to's" in regards on how to make a custom rosters, or a quick start. |

Think I'm getting some stuff figured out. I'm going to try to import one player into 2020 and see if that works.

If you want these players to have their real history you have to import them all, you can a mass import by list and put them on the teams you want.
Then export the rosters as a .csv file and edit away with your ratings. As long as you match the players you should be able to import it back in. There will be some things you'll have to edit in game yourself like personality and few other ratings but for the most part that should work. Import when done You can also import/export the stats the same way, export to .csv and edit as needed. |

Try Baseball Greats on the steam workshop for OOTP 21.
