What Determines First-Year Player Draft Order with No Previous Season?

I've reached the first-year player draft for my fictional historical league, and this is the league's first season. There has been no prior season to use as a basis for determining the draft order. But my team is scheduled to pick first, even though we are comfortably in first place in the league. The entire order seems random.

Is that how the game determines the first-year player draft order if there are no previous standings to use? If so, I will likely change the order to be based on reverse order of the current standings because I think it would be a bit unfair for the top team to get the first overall pick.

Yes, it seems random the first year.

What I've done in this case is use the most recent Power Rankings in reverse order to determine the draft order.

Reverse order of the 1st round of the inaugural draft is the fairest, I think....

Great ideas from both of you. I'm going with Questdog's suggestion on the assumption that a new league would specify that the first-year player draft order would be the reverse of the inaugural draft. That would seem fairest and allow franchises to plan and proceed accordingly, without the uncertainty of waiting on the power rankings or standings at mid-season. I probably should have scheduled the drafts to occur after each season, though. Often I've done it that way, but I wasn't thinking about it this time.

I always do random for every round. Adds some excitement.
