Major and minor league contracts

What is the optimal number of players with major league contracts on the team? I guess it is good to have a decent backup, but a player with major league contract is not usually happy when playing in the minors.

Players automatically get a major league contract when you call them up from the minors. Don't give players a major league contract if you don't have to.

One more thing when I have at least 30 relievers in my rookie team at age 20-25 and still have a potential rating of 20, I guess it makes sense to release them. As I know this costs no money to the club.

It's probably a good idea to full your rosters from time to time, yes

Though, I find it hard to break these players' digital hearts. I sometimes throw a couple in to a trade and let some other heartless GM crush their dreams.
