Best overachieving cards...tips needed please

Hi all guys, italian OOTP and baseball fan here. I ended up buying the game just today and i am fired up about the perfect team mode, something i was able to play quite a bit in 2018 before having an off year last season

My question is, and i would be extremely grateful if you could help me, what are the best silver and gold cards to buy out there in order to build a competitive team without doing costly mistakes in the auction house? I mean players that consistently seem to perform better than their ratings indicate

Thanks everyone for the tips and good luck all, i hope to reach you soon in high level leagues

Carlo

There are no secrets like that. Your best bet, is to complete the Live Card missions. These reward cards are very good up to about gold level. While you are moving up you can observe other teams' cards that do well. Once you complete the live missions and earn 39+ reward cards, you can sell 13+ of them. You should also try to build an iron and/or bronze tournament team to win packs. Also, there are very few cards less than diamond that are viable at diamond level.

Bailey is correct. There is no secret overachieving cards Live missions is your best bet when starting at the rookie level. It should be easy enough to buy the iron and bronze players on the live teams to complete the mission. But save that PP to upgrade your team as you move up,

Ditto what Bailey and Daves have said. The 99 Maddux from the Live Mission sets still performs well (with a good defense behind him) all the way up in the Diamond leagues. Jeff Bagwell will perform well enough up through at least Silver as will the 96 Steve Carlton. Used to be Gold as well for them both, but the league has of course evolved quite a bit over the past couple of months and Gold leagues can be pretty tough depending on what teams were relegated into them from Diamond after each week.

Thank you guys for the tips, luckily a worthless players was able to bring home 10 rbi in one game and give me 5k PP right from the get go With other achievements i ended up at 14k and i decided to reinvest those perfect points in two diamond cards just for the sake of it and the fun of having two powerful bats in the middle of the lineup so i grabbed Bagwell SE 97 and Cano SE 96 hoping that they will crush opposing pitchers at this level and therefore get back part of the investment i made, while also fueling my team with runs on the way to a promotion.

Not sure if this was the right call, i could have opted for few more gold cards I guess we'll see

please say you bought the live cards that complete the missions for those two for like 5K total instead of actually buying special editions off the auction house

Btw just a quick question guys...since i "underpaid" Robinson Cano in the auction house (i paid him around 6600 while i see his avg past 7 days is 9500) can i get that card through the collection mission as you said and then sell the card i already bought or i have to first sell the card and then buy the same card submitting the completed mission? Thanks a lot again, PT rookie here

You can sell any copy at any time.

It's not a big deal at all and you will probably get back close what you paid, but might take some patience since the card is basically free to create on your own and the only buyers are new players like yourself who don't know better.

When a player's OVR is lower, I think it's better to go with a player that has balanced above average ratings or a few outstanding ratings, even one. The balanced player won't lose many games for your team. The other kind of player, with high contact or something, will win a few games you otherwise wouldn't have had a chance to win, or at least create some noise.
