Can you cancel playoff?

Asked this in the historical forum, but figured I would ask it here too, as it's really not limited to the historical game.

Can you cancel the playoffs prior to the end of the season?

I have a 12 team, one subleague, no divisions league. 154 game balanced schedule.

What I'm kicking around is a setup in which the top 2 teams faceoff in a best of 7 league championship series each year, unless the top team finishes up by 5 games or more. If the top team finishes up 5 games, they would be crowned league champions out right. Can this be done, or would cancelling the post season cause issues?

Oh and if it can be done, what would y'all say is the fairest cutoff point. I said 5 games, but should it be 7 or maybe 10?

I'm not positive you can delete the playoff schedule and still have the game crown a champion. Maybe Matt can weigh in if he sees this thread.

I'd say the cutoff should be at least 7 and probably 10 or more. A five-game differential over 154 games is very small.

League Setup - League Settings - Options Tab - about 2/3 of the way down right side - "Disable Playoffs"

Be advised - when you disable playoffs, the Game will list the top team as Champion in your league history.

Can you do that midseason?

You should be able to. You will likely get some weird messages as teams' clinch statuses shift heavily overnight, for example, but I believe it should be fine.

Yes, my league is in early May right now, 30 + games in and the option is still available.

Thanks you guys. I think I'm going to give this a go. Big17Easy, I think to start, I will take your advice and go with 10 games. I might as well put Bluenoser on retainer. Thanks for all your help.

You can still change the structure on the very last day of the season.

As long as the playoffs havent started, you should be able to make changes.

A 1 game lead over 7 games is pretty small too

You could always create a new game, sim half a season, delete the playoffs and see what happens
