Thinking of starting an online league - seeking tips, advice, etc
Thinking of starting an online league.
Initially thinking about a historic league that marches to present day, but not set on that. What are some things I should know before starting the process? Any tips or advice regarding pitfalls, issues, concerns, what you think I should know? A few things I'm thinking off of hand... Is there anything I need to do to ensure salaries/ratings don't get bonkers or require a massive reset at any point? I like natural progression but have heard at times things can jump the shark. How does the websites I've seen work? Is there a program or how does OOTP export the files to be uploaded to a website? I already have website experience with non OOTP related working and know HTML and PHP. Is setting up an online league and setting up members straight forward within OOTP itself? Thanks in advance! |

I'm still going to dive in. Was curious if someone was willing to walk me through the set up. I am semi familiar with servers/domains/etc as I've hosted various websites and non OOTP leagues for over a decade. I am struggling with the OOTP online set up within the game though :/

Never been a commish but I've been in many leagues and they've all used Stats+.
Most leagues have a constitution in place to help balance the league; certain contract rules, roster minimums to prevent AI problems in the minors and tanking in the majors. I love a league with scouting and coaching turned off, helps keep everyone on the same playing field. Always keep an eye on export rates and if someone drops off be sure to set them to AI until you find a new GM. |

Definitely recommend stats+. Dave is a great resource. Most leagues use Slack to communicate. I started my first online league in March, after playing on my solo on my desktop for years. I'm not tech savvy, so having Dave and the community available to assist with questions and issues was invaluable. I'd recommend joining an online league to help learn what you like / don't like. I have definitely picked some things up that we've implemented that I wouldn't have thought of prior (contract rules, owner goals on/off, trading rules...). I'm in 1 historical league, but I'm not sure how the setup works for that. But it's a lot of fun! 1986 was the start year.
