The new team record for fewest hits allowed in a game and the highest Game Score (91)! It is his 5th shutout of the season and 9th of his young career.

We are in Louisville to play the Colonels a 4 game series through the weekend. They just split a pair of games here with New Orleans, winning yesterday, 1 to 0, in 11 innings. We are 2-8 against them on the season, the worst record we have against anyone and the only losing record we have against any team in the South. We were swept in 3 games the first time we visited, August 5-7. They are 7th in scoring with 3.98 runs per game (Jacksonville is #8 with 3.91). They have scored 11 more runs than we have. The Colonels are 10th in fewest runs allowed with 4.14 per game (Jacksonville is #5 with 3.83). Their run differential is -24 and ours is +11.

We are in Orlando to play the Juice a 4 game series. They won 3 of 4 here against Richmond over the weekend. We are 5-5 against them on the season and won 2 of 3 the first time we visited, August 25-27. They lead the MLB in scoring with 4.45 runs per game, a pace to score 720 runs on the season, which is pretty low for the League leader. Last year, Buffalo scored 777 and in 2001, Memphis scored 775 (Jacksonville is #8 with 3.94) We are scoring slightly less than we did last year, but are higher in the pecking order (we were #10 last year). The Juice are 10th in fewest runs allowed with 4.15 per game (Jacksonville is #6 with 3.85). Their run differential is +45 and ours is +15.

Gilchrist had a CG win last time out, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, 1 home run and 5 walks with 1 strikeout. This may be his final start ever for the Jays, if we can find a taker for his services over the Winter. He has pitched great, when healthy, but has not been very healthy... The same reason we traded the pitcher he is facing today.

We have faced our old friend, Martinez, who is their #1 starter, 3 times this season, but only once was he able to pitch significant innings die to injuries. He pitched very significant innings in that game, though, but lost to us in to 10th inning. 0-2 1.32 ERA, 13.2 IP, 8 H, 0 HR, 2 BB, 8 SO.

We are in Richmond to finish the season with a 3 games series versus the defending MLB Champions over the weekend. They are 1 game out of 1st and we are hoping to finish at .500 or better, so this series is pretty big for both teams. They just won 3 of 4 games here against Louisville. We are 6-5 against the Robins on the season and split a pair of games the last time we visited, August 11-12. They are tied for 13th in scoring with 3.77 runs per game (Jacksonville is #9 with 3.95). The have only hit 59 HR on the season. The 2nd worst team, Columbus, has 78. And then comes us and New Orleans with 87 each. The Robins are 3rd in fewest runs allowed with 3.32 per game (Jacksonville is tied for 5th with 3.82). Their run differential is +72, the best in the South and 4th in the MLB, and ours is +21, 7th best.

September 29 - Dave Gray (34-R) of Memphis pitched a 4 hit shutout at home versus Birmingham. He walked 2 and struck out 6. At bat, he had a hit. It is his 5th shutout of the season. He is now 9-15 with a 3.94 ERA in 32 starts. The Mules won, 3 to 0.

October 3 - Bill Cortright (36-R) of Ottawa pitched a 2 hit shutout at home versus Indianapolis. He did not walk a batter, but hit one and struck out 9. It is his 6th shutout of the season. He is now 18-9 with a 2.53 ERA in 30 starts. The Otters won, 3 to 0.
October 4 - 1B Herman Chance (33-R) of Orlando had 3 hits with a home run and a walk, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBI at home versus Charlotte. The Juice won, 9 to 7.
October 5 - Syracuse lost All-Star LF Jeff Garrigus (34-R) for the rest of the season with a bone bruise in his wrist. He hit .231 with 18 HR and 63 RBI in 511 AB.
October 5 - Charlotte lost All-Star P Bob Stephens (26-R) for the rest of the season and next season, as well, with a torn ligament in his elbow. He was 15-9 with a 2.99 ERA in 32 starts.

In the first ever playoff for a division title, the Richmond Robins defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 6 to 1, in Charlotte. 2B Mike Sammon (25-R) had 2 hits and a walk, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI. P Sammy Brumley (27-L) started the game for the Robins, but had to leave in the 5th inning with an injury, since diagnosed as a partially torn labrum that will keep him out of the Millennial Cup.

There are no ties in the MLB. 1st tiebreaker is head to head record, 2nd is record within the division, 3rd is run differential, 4th is record versus the division champion and 5th is run differential in head to head games.

The tie between Hartford and Indianapolis was broken by their record within the division. Indianapolis was 40-58 and Hartford was 38-60.

The Millennial Cup

Syracuse won the season series with Richmond, 6-2
The same two teams met last year in the Millennial Cup and Syracuse had the same record in the regular season against Richmond, but the Robins won the Cup in 5 games. The Sycamores won the Cup in 2001, so whichever team wins this year will be the first two-time Champion of the MLB.

Both teams have injury issues, the the Robins have more.
