Which Fielding Stats are Correct

I've noticed with Rico Petrocelli in Perfect Team that during the current/active season that his fielding statistics always show as being poor per the first screenshot, but after the season is over his fielding statistics are always reflected in a way that is much better as seen in the second screenshot.

Every year I notice his ZR is a relatively large negative value, but once the season completes it always then reflects in a much better numbers especially the ZR.

Any idea if this is a known bug?

Yes, the current season we can compare to the actual players in the league, whereas after the season or looking back at past seasons, we don't have that data available to us, so it just uses a generic baseline. In many cases, it can be fairly far off the talent level from the league.

Thanks for the explanation about existing season statistics vs past seasons.
I meant to ask this, but forgot, any clue as to why Petrocelli has a negative ZR (and usually at least -10.0) at SS during every active season when he is rated a 93 at SS? After seeing this 15 years straight with him at SS, it almost seems that behind the scenes he really is rated much worse.

Fielding rating overalls are massively inflated this year. If you are in a league where most other teams are playing guys like Wagner/Yount/Dahlen/Boudreau who are all 110+ then 93 is well below average

Thanks dkgo - you made me want to crunch some numbers so I averaged all of the SS ratings in the league for all 30 teams and I came up with an average of 99. Based on that, I would expect his ZR to maybe be a little below zero, but not always as bad as it is each season.
