ratings

what is the purpose of using 20-80 ratings. I don't understand why anyone would want to start a rating at 20 instead of say....1..this makes no sense to me, so what is the purpose of starting at 20? just trying to understand it's purpose

20-80 is what real scouts use so that's why I use it. I have always and will always use it.

I agree that I cannot wrap my head around it starting at 20 and ending at 80 either (I use 1-20), but I understand why OOTP players and real-life scouts use it.

If you haven’t already, I recommend trying all the ratings styles at least once. It’ll give you a better feel on how you personally rate players.

Everyone has a different preference. Some people like the real scout ratings 20-80 to allow scouts to finely differentiate players. Others like a 1-5 scale and rely much more heavily on stats. It is an art balancing the scout's ratings and the actual stats. A guy suck wind might just have a limited sample and your scout is right that he has a high current and/or potential or your scout could be dead wrong and rate a guy low and he performs really well.
