A whale's life

I am a free to play player, who through grinding tourneys, investing well etc have now been able to finish all the fotf missions. I am now in diamond battling for promotion against several other all fotf teams. So when the rng decides I'll probably be promoted.

However, rather than being excited I feel kind of empty, my team will probably never really improve from here, no need to check the ah do missions etc and this is after 1 week.

So this got me thinking, this must be what whales feel like and I don't care for it all.

So not to criticise whales who are essential for how the game works (who else is going to spends thousands on your lucky pulls). But Im genuinely interested. What do whales do? Or if you are a whale do you just check your team on Sunday to manage playoffs/see if you've won.

I haven't spent a single cent on PT either, but I'll speak to a couple of the concerns that you raised.

The first thing is that depending on what kind of card base you have left over after finishing FotF, there's still plenty of strategies you can adopt to stay engaged with the main team. Some examples are cycling in players from your reserve roster based on park factors and team matchup, or using pseudo-openers.

The second thing is that the mission program isn't over, just like it didn't end with the last of the team missions in the fall of last year's PT. All hints point to missions in the style of this year's NL mission or last year's TOTD mission where all the cards required for the collection reward will be new content.

The forthcoming postseason collections promise to be very interesting. Depends how many cards needed, quality of reward and if there are any bottlenecks to spoil the fun. All new cards to hunt down.
