New issue regarding names and templates...
As I often do, I'm using a custom database...as I also often do, I'm using templates.
Anyway, in a template, any name in a single nameset that is both a first and last name only appears as a first name, no matter how often it is supposed to appear as a last name. (Update: Initially, I thought this applied on a total basis, but I noticed that a common surname missing from most of my league, Robert, does appear in namesets where it doesn't appear as a first name, as an example.) As I don't know what all would be best for the devs to receive for this, I have decided to enclose four additional items in the FTP file, "Ligues with Name Files.lg.7z". These are a players.csv file for those 11 years, first and last name .txt files to compare it to, and the original template I started the file with. Even if that's too much, I'm not convinced that just the league .dat files would be sufficient if there isn't proper context. Hopefully, I've made this make enough sense that it can be worked out for 22's release. Last edited by siobhan; 10-05-2020 at 03:21 AM. |

If you reload/reimport the names database does that fix or change things at all, or still the same thing?

HI Lukas. Thanks for following up.
When I reimport, everything is fine...I think. I get names like Martin and Bernard and Thomas as last names again, and the sum next to the "Number of Names" on the database tab of the game settings screen (yikes, what a mouthful) adds up to the exact amount of names I have in the names and first_names files. Here's why I say "I think", though. After I let the game create a draft pool, where I first saw those surnames in use, I went back to that tab because I forgot what the number was and I noticed after some math that the numbers didn't add up again. When I reimported, it didn't return to the original numbers. In fact, if I reimport multiple times without changing screens, which I did to double check things, the numbers will keep increasing, which makes me think it's just adding the last names not in the original template over and over. (That is just speculation on my part, and it may be doing something else in reality.) All I can be sure of is that those surnames I mentioned at the outset do not show up in any of the namesets when I load from a template. What goes on after I reimport the first time, unfortunately, is totally going over my head at the moment; I can only be sure of what happens before a reimport. |

So I experimented with making a new league with the template, immediately reimporting the database, and immediately randomizing player names. This worked out without a hitch.
It dawned on me that I can't compare the number of names listed to what I have in my files due to four namesets currently being unused at the moment...and I was also realizing from checking the names.dat file in Notepad++ that nicknames and any Jr.'s that show up are included in that count. The point is that all that changed with names.dat from one year of simulating is that one Jr. showed up in my league, so it means that a reimport and a randomize fixes things in a way I'm satisfied with. I hope that made enough sense. |
