19th Century Evolution
A few years ago I played through the history of the National Association. Then I intended to move that game on to the beginning of the National League. When I set up the National League, I found that the National Association was no longer visible in my game. I want to try this again but want to avoid the lost visibility back into the NA once I start up the NL.
Anyone have experience with this? I'm looking for comments/suggestions on how to manage the evolution from one major league to another without losing the ability to see the history of an old league once the new one is up and running in the same game. I don't recall clearly what I did last time (about 3 years ago) but don't want to play through the history of the National Association again only to have it become invisible once the NA is out of business and the National League is in play. I'm looking for advice from anyone who has done something like this. |

You have to keep them as separate leagues. You can then create an Association of the two leagues for post-season purposes and player acquisition.

if you're playing a historical game with historical evolution on (don't think it happens if historical evolution is off off - but i'm not at my game and not 100% CERTAIN) - after any season - the game will adjust to what it's history is. so if you manually entered the National Association (and didn't make it an associated league as mentioned above) it will vanish.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
I'm sure that last time I did explicitly define the National Association, then the National League -- but no association. When the NA ended and the NL began play in 1876, the NA vanished in my game. So you guys think that if I put the NA and the NL into an association together, then the history of each will persist in the game even if the NA no longer plays any games? I've always played with purely fictional players -- and assume I could play a historical game with fictional players. But I also want to explicitly manage league evolution, including the addition and subtraction of independent or minor leagues as they come and go. I've never used an association before. If I put my leagues together in an association, will that prevent the history of each league from vanishing when it halts play? And can I have multiple associations in a single game, as I assume is the case? If the answer to both these questions is yes, then I'm ready to start my new OOTP project. |

Sorry if this suggestion is something obvious that you have already tried, but I'm just wondering if your Nat'l Assoc history is actually there, but maybe you don't know where to find it. Try doing this:
On your league dropdown (might be called MLB or NL or whatever...), select League History > History Index. Then from that panel, click on the Leagues hyperlink (which is in-between "Managers" and "Leaderboard"). You should then see a list of links for all active and inactive/defunct leagues. If you haven't already tried that, give it a shot. |

I misunderstood, I think, the OP's intention. If he wants the NA to end and the NL begin, then no Association is required. I thought he wanted to the NA to continue....

My earlier attempt at this was with ootp18 or ootp19. When things didn't seem to be there after the NA became defunct, I abandoned the effort. I never brought anything forward to later versions of the game.
My memory is that when I looked at league history, the NA was not there after I removed its teams, when I got to the NL in 1876. Can't check back and my memory might be wrong, but... Anyway, I'm going to try this again in the coming weeks. Thanks again to those who tried to help. |
