Rule 5 returned players
There is a bug where players who are selected in rule 5 and then returned by the drafting team, the team receiving the player back then MUST put the player on the 40 man roster in order to return the player to their minor leagues. This isn't how rule 5 works is it?
I think it happens when the player has been used on the drafting teams roster and then the player is returned midseason. |

Yeah, that's not how it's supposed to work. Is it doing this for any Rule 5 players that are returned or is it just certain players?

Ok, something we'll have to take a look at then. Not sure if it'll be for this year or next year at this point in time though.

there's actually more sabotage possible.. this has been tested and confirmed. you can pick someone in the rule 5, sign him to a massive multiyear contract, and then return him to the team who's then burdened with the ridiculous contract.

it looks like this happens when the player has started to accrue major league service time. If the player is returned, say at the end of spring training or before, they will go straight back to the original team's dfa and can then be assigned to a minor league team. But if the drafting team keeps them for any part of the season on the 26 man roster, then returns them, they are sent to the dfa of the original team, however the game forces the original team to put the player on the 40 man roster before allowing that team to assign the player to a minor league team.

Is this in an online league, or an offline league?
I know we have made various fixes and changes at various times. I believe that extensions should get cleared before the player is returned, and if the claimed player was on a min-value contract, it should get cleared. If the player was on a deal above the league min, then yes, there may be issues there. It's also possible there are still issues. I know online leagues especially there's some challenges with registering the change, so it's possible there are still some issues there. |

Yes this is in an online league - I have had a player in a league returned from being on a min value contract after being drafted in Rule 5, but the return happened 3 weeks into the season and so the player has accrued 21 days service time. The player was returned to my team's DFA but now the game is saying the player must be on the 40 man roster before being placed in the minors (despite being on a minor league deal)

I wonder if this has something to do with mL contracts with ML options.
If a player signed a mL Contract with a ML option for $500K with Team A, and that player was drafted by Team B in the Rule 5, I assume if he spent any time in the majors, his $500K ML contract would kick in. Since he's no longer being paid whatever the league minimum salary is, when he gets returned to Team A, the game sees him as a ML player and thus requires him to go on the 40-man. Any chance that might have been what happened in your offline league? |
