While I am disappointed, and it seems a bit like a kick in the nuts to us F2P players losing the tournament format that best fits us, I do not believe it was intentional, and I trust the developers to get it right. They always do.

I had to update, but once I did the defense tournaments are players from 1980-1992

I think these niche tournaments should all be Do or Die with 8 players earning the winner 1 ticket and a pack. There will be a total of 128 such tournaments (before switching to a different niche type). After 128 tournaments have been played, the winners (with tickets) will play in a 128 player Do or Die that is streamed with the winner getting a Schoolboy-like card. Once you win an 8-player you cannot re-enter it, and you cannot enter a 2nd one if you are currently active in one.

In this manner, players with less than deep card inventories can have a chance at something significant. If they win a ticket, they should have some time to buy some better cards!
I think these 8 players will fill up quickly and players won't mind using a slot for it until they win one.

The first player to win 3 128-player events gets a Cy Young-like card.

I played my normal 16 team BO3 Gold tournaments for a couple of days, always losing, before I realized what happened. It doesn't say anywhere anything about 80-92. This was my favorite tournament, along with probably another 25 teams that you always see in this format. Hate the new format and hope OOTP brings back the old one.

I have to agree with others that I hope the tournaments return prior to this update. Miss B03 and S03. Just don't have time to figure out if I can participate in some these new formats?

It looks like the Thursday 1625 Super Cap got culled as well. Damn. That was one of my favorite tournaments. It's a shame that a recent string of terrible rewards slowed the fill rate the past few weeks, leading to the conclusion that nobody liked it.

(Spoiler: a fair amount of people do.)

Is there a roster filter for 1980 to 1992 players for my team?

if you're searching the auction house.try pasting
198|199(0|1|2)
into the player search field
and set max value to 69

If you're building a team, just enter one of those tournaments and use 'manage inactive cards' with 'hide ineligible cards' checked.
There is no other way within the game to filter by year currently (shame on the developers for not providing this).

The only other solution would be to search these forums for one of the excel spreadsheets with PT card ratings and do a search within those if you happen to be a spreadsheet geek or know one.
You could even export a report of your own with whatever stats you want to track by entering the tournament, activate all eligible cards, then click 'player list' on the rosters page, and make sure you have "LISTED: entire organization" selected at the top right, and use 'report' 'write report to disk', and then copy from the browser page that it opens into your excel spreadsheet. Then you could unjoin the tournament and work off your spreadsheet til you have a player list to select from.

I literally went position by position, year by year. Catcher 1980, catcher 1981, catcher 1982 and so on. It did not take me as long as I expected.

I ended up joining the tournament and did a player search in the tournament to see what players are being used.
