Jump in the deep end.

Most online leagues are willing to help out newbies within limitations. You'll learn very quickly as those upload deadlines come fast.

I just started playing online last spring and it has been a really great experience. It is really the best that OOTP has to offer as far as realism and excitement. It is really easy to learn and the community is extremely helpful in getting new folks acclimated. Drafts and trading are especially rewarding in online. The right league is especially important so you need to think a bit about what type of experience you want. Do you want to "walk down memory lane" by playing in a historical league or do you want to play with fictional players that you have to figure out on your own (or with the help of a scout)?

If you are looking for a historical league there is an opening in a league I participate in to take over the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1993 season. It is a good league with good participation and some helpful folks. If you are interested feel free to DM me and I can put you in touch with the commissioners who can get you all set up.

Enjoy!

We have guys that just picked up the game like a month or two months ago in our league and some who have had it longer but never played in an online league before all depends on the league really. Some leagues don't want newbies but our league POTD we are fine with them joining as we have plenty of knowledge to share . We have guys that been playing for over ten years and we have guys that have been playing a year so we have a wide range of experience and knowledge to help out newer players and it helps new players out to have that much knowledge and experience available for them to tap into.

Truly depends on the group of GMs in a league, and how willing they are to share tips and tricks. Typically that comes from the top down, and the commissioner of a league’s leadership. If they encourage current GMs help newbs you’ll have a very satisfactory experience.

My advise to you would be when applying/inquiring to a league, ask about the amount of new GMs they’ve taken on, or how they support new GMs.

But you should also come in with a working knowledge of Rule V, 40 Man Rosters and waiver/dfa statuses.
