Live Cards for next years OOTP 22

I think there needs to be some manner in which Live cards are more useful in PT than they have been in the past couple versions. Frankly nearly all Live cards are worthless above Bronze level during season play. While they can be useful in certain tournaments (capped ones especially) about the only thing I use them for outside of that is auction market speculation and missions (okay so those parts are fun). Just wondering if ratings may be looked at again next year to see how at least the top tier players have more of an impact than it stands now. Maybe the ability to have live season only PT leagues as well with either reduced or none of the perfect point rewards that the normal seasons have.

I don't see why the average run-of-the-mill spoiled and ill-mannered baseball millionaire of today needs to placed on par with any of the greats of the past.

Oh I agree with that for the most part. But certain established players who are at the 100 rated level who have and are still producing at similar levels with historical greats shouldn't have their ratings lessened just because they are a Live card unless of course their play on the field during the season calls for it. Also, not saying they should be at FOTF levels either.

If you had a separate Live only PT season it would certainly have some of the drawbacks that the regular PT season had for the first half of the year (similar roster makeup). However, if the Live PT seasons only occurred during the regular season next year from April to October, I think it could be interesting to see how teams deal with all the constant rating changes that occur for Live cards. That and maybe throw in a few of the tournament capped rules as well.

I was thinking the same thing before reading your post. Besides Collections, tournaments and lower level leagues, the live players are not generally above Bronze levels. They are more worthless in PT21 as compared to the prior versions.

Eliminating the live cards would eliminate the constant fluctuations during the season and would make opening packs much more enjoyable.

Well I doubt the developers would switch to that business model of removing Live cards. As a FTP person, I enjoy playing the Live card market economy during the season. However, it would be great (though super unlikely) to see live cards removed from packs by the end of October when the Live market ceases to exist. This would also come in line when Historical packs also have less value anyways. Once the collection missions come to an end for OOTP 21 and the developers start going full speed ahead on OOTP 22, only a handful of historical golds have much market value above 2500 perfect points. Once the missions come out and several weeks (sometimes as soon as 1 week) go by, the value of historical golds drops pretty significantly unless it is one that doesn't get pulled very often and is critical to a mission. Sure, its nice if you pull a pretty good historical diamond, but this years ratings adjustments have made hardly any historical diamonds worth anything above Gold level. I had at least 5 to 7 historical diamond cards last year that I would have been hard pressed to sell for someone else to buy for a mission because they were competitive starting lineup cards still. This year, I'm like Mad Money Jim Cramer and will sell that stock as soon as the market gets hot with nearly every historical diamond.

My full Live team is doing fine in silver, heading to the playoffs this season. I think some are definitely underrated vs historical counterparts

Yeah, it's one thing when we are comparing a top tier Live Card rating to that of a historical career/peak card. I don't expect those to be similar. However, with some of the historical cards based off a single year being better than those rating with a Live player clearly producing at a higher level than that particular historical card did is what I take issue with.

I definitely can see a team full of Live players competing at Silver. I have had to use a Live card here or there at Gold, but they rarely produce. Mainly because most Live pitchers even at the diamond and perfect ratings have terrible movement and below average control ratings.

I think they should make more of an effort to make them balanced with historical cards, but also they really need to do a better job balancing the way modern flashbacks are rated as to make them more competitive as well.

As much as everyone loves learning about past greats, most of us have a far greater emotional attachment to the players we grew up watching and who's careers we've watched with our own eyes. Unfortunately, partly because of the meta of the game, partly because how they've rebalanced different era's rating, the game massively favours guys from the deadball era, who most of us frankly have far less invested in.

Tbh, it's mainly an issue with how overrated avoid K's seems to be. If you build a game and the like of Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth are less good than random guys who just happened to not strike out much, then you've not managed to get the balance quite right.

Maybe more of the live card only tournaments?

I try to enter one of the quick tourneys every day or so for live cards.

I suggest having a second weekly league that is restricted to live cards only. This would be in addition to the current weekly league to is open to all cards. If we see a full baseball season in 2021, the regular ratings changes would make this type of league very interesting. It would also increase the market value of highly rated live cards.

Over the course of the season, POTM cards could also be allowed in the live card league.
