Independent leagues
In trying to play in the American IL on the first try when the game started I had zero players on my roster. So I tried again and told it to use the historical rosters and I had a partial roster of free agents who all wanted a Major league contract to extend. So I tried again and told it to fill the rosters with fictional players and I had a pretty much full roster but again they were all free agents who wanted Major league contracts. Now how is a independent league team supposed to give a Major league contract to anybody???? And what would be the point, if I give give them the contract than I would have an empty roster again???? I'm I doing something wrong? Is the Independent leagues not meant to be played in a career mode?

How are you setting up the game? Are you selecting the Standard Game and adding the US Indy Leagues or are you playing historical?

I could only play them in the standard, there didn't seem to be an option in the historical.

The Major League contract extension they want means an Independent League contract with Salary as opposed to a Independent League minor league contract with a signing bonus or no signing bonus.

Also note that most Independent teams sign players for only 1 season, so they do have a lot of roster turnover (especially in OOTP). The bigger leagues (Atlantic and American Association) will have guys stay with one team for multiple seasons, but they usually do not resign them til after the season to allow them to find a job in the minors or in Japan or Korea.
The smaller leagues (Frontier, PECOS, Pacific Association and the newly added Empire and United Shore) mostly see guys play one season with a team and then move onto one of the larger indy leagues if they do not get picked up by a major league team. And for the empty rosters at start, depending on which league you started with, the larger leagues should all have players on them, but since none of them actually played a season where all the teams played (American Assoc is playing with half the teams), they never actually filled out their rosters (so we did not add players to them in the database), so if you play as one you would have to sign guys, but the AI will fill out their rosters before their opening day. In real life, these leagues do not start til well after the MLB season, so they are able to sign guys who get cut after spring training or early in the year (April, May). They are playable as a career but just have to be patient to find guys that could be stars, and those guys usually will get purchased from you by MLB teams as the season goes on, so pay attention to that, I don't think the game sends you a message telling you a guy was purchased by a MLB team.
