Player Major Role and Tactical Role
I've been playing FHM for several years now and I always try to line up a player's major role with his tactical role.
BUT... does this actually make any difference ? For example, if a player's current major role is "Offensive Forward" does it actually make any difference if I choose to play him as a Backchecking Forward as his tactical role ? Also, if I change a player's Major Role and it makes that player "unhappy" does that actually make any difference to anything ? |

The major role is essentially the role the team's management tells the player it intends for him, while the tactical role is the one the coach actually has him playing in. There used to be, under the previous tactical system, a closer connection between the two with penalties if they weren't compatible, but at the moment major role is mainly a guide for the AI coach on how to use player and doesn't have a lot of impact on a human GM's decisions, aside from the moral penalty you noticed (which, like all morale penalties, will hurt the player's performance if they pile up.)
I've been meaning to tighten up the connection between major and tactical role again for a while now, and it'll be changing in FHM7. If there's a conflict, that'll increase the likelihood that the player won't behave in a way that his tactical role instructs him to, and may instead revert to using his team role (or his natural tendencies) to direct his actions. |

So in an online league format where everyone is a human GM, the primary basically means nothing? Is that the simplified version of what I’m reading? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I said "doesn't have a lot of impact", not "does nothing." It still has the morale effect, and the compatibility of the offered role with the players' natural tendencies affects his contract demands and willingness to sign.
