League Total setting for 40 team league?
Hey fellas.
What would you set the league totals to for a 40- team fictional league to reflect current MLB numbers? (ie highest HR totals in the mid 40's+, pitcher ERAs in the 3's with a few exceptions, etc) Thanks! |

Recently saw about post concerning your question...
It said the settings are just ratios and work with any number of teams. I always sim 3 months...look at the league leader totals and the team batting averages. If they are not what I want, I adjust the league total settings (go to "league setup"...then "advanced setup" and adjust the league totals in the categories you want to change...hits, doubles, triples, home runs, hbp, strikeouts, walks... The adjusting procedure below is correct...but confusing...this is how the game works. REMEMBER "TO INCREASE" the total in a category..."DECREASE" the number in that category...if you want more home runs and the number listed is 5000...lower the number the percentage you want it to drop....If you want 10% fewer make the league totals for the home runs 4500. To "TO DECREASE" a category..."INCREASE" the number in that category...if you want more home runs and 5000 is listed in the league total settings...raise the number the percentage you want it to go up...If you want 20% more home runs make the league totals for home runs 6000. EACH TIME YOU RUN A 3 MONTH TEST...GO AND RESET THE LEAGUE STATS BACK TO ZERO (go to League Setup in Basic League Setup...Functions and Financial Settings)...I also erase all career records (see Advanced League Setup...Miscellaneous Options and Functions)...In the Almanac reset the league records. This works well for me. It usually take two 3 month tests to get the league totals close to what I want. Please note that players' ratings will change when you run these tests, so I would try to limit how many tests you run. Have heard if you set the game to "Replay" mode...the changes will be less than "Career" mode. At the beginning of the next season, if needed, you can just change the league totals the percentage you want to increase or decrease...no need to run test leagues. Hope this helps. Got any more questions, will try to get the answer for you. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-06-2003 at 01:41 PM. |

I'm confused ... your saying if you want to increase a catagory - one should decrease the number. And, if you want a decrease in a catagory one should increase the number?

Spanky, that is exactly right.
If a player hits 10 HR with a setting of 100 (10/100) then increasing the setting to 200 (10/200) decreases the ratio. |

Spanky:
Instead of using the actual league for the test run to set your league totals, make a backup of your league and use it for your league after the test runs. That way you don't have to clear out any records. Your league will start from scratch. |

what if you use the modern era default for 30 teams divide by 5 then mutiply by 8. i belive that should keep the ratios the same .
let me know if i am forgetting something . that almost seems too easy

As long as the ratios are the same, the actual totals don't really matter. i.e. there's no reason to change them.
