Help With Star Player Decision

Hi guys,

Thanks for reading, im still relatively inexperienced with this game and i've got a decision on my hands.

My star player's contract is up in 2 years, however there is a player opt out at the end of this season.. I can get him to sign an extension, however even with that in place I feel like he may still opt out - is that possible?

I guess his age would also be a factor.. He'll be 31 at the start of next season, when would he start to decline?

As an FYI, I can get him to sign a $25million 4 year extension.

Wondering whether I could potentially trade him for some quality prospects and cash in on him..

First, not enough information for us to tell you what to do. Do you expect your team to contend over the next four years? What's your financial situation? What's the league financial situation?

Second, there's probabky not a right or wrong answer. If you sign him, you'll go down unknown path 1. If you trade him, you'll start down unknown path two.

Third, shop him and see what kind of offers you get. How can one make a decision about whether to trade a player before knowing what they'd get back?

Fourth, I usually don't do extensions in season as players often ask for much more. Better to wait until the end of the season or even let them reach free agency. I'll look to see what they are asking for and if it's too high, then I wait knowing that it'll come down later.
