Insane Random Debut ; Also Fix Needed?
Decided to boot up a random debut starting in 1965 today. Turned out to be on one of the craziest initial drafts I've ever seen, but also made me realize there's a pretty big problem with the random debut draft.
First of all, it's absolutely insane that Chicago was able to grab an 18 year old Wayne Gretzky, an 18 year old Alex Ovechkin, and a 22 year old Mike Bossy in the same draft. Arguably the three greatest goal scorers of all time will be on the same line, and they're all just beginning their careers essentially. Even taking a look at the rest of that Chicago team, it's easy to see they will probably win at least 10+ Stanley Cups over the next two decades. Also, the rest of the talent pool in this draft is off the charts as well. However, then I started to realize (and I'm not sure why I've never noticed this before), that the draft was not a snake draft. Why does Chicago get the 1,7, and 13 overall draft picks? Boston should have gotten 6 and 7. And if they did, this ridiculous team would have never been allowed to form. I never noticed that the random debut initial drafts weren't snake drafts, but they ABSOLUTELY need to be changed to be so. |

Nothing wrong with that. Random debut is pure luck, at least it was in my game(s).

Yeah, that really should be a snake draft. We'll change that for 7.

Haven't loaded one in a couple months though. That is a strong class for a 6 team league but would be typical in a bigger league. |

That seems like a real fluke with all the HOFers you got in the initial set up.
I started a random debut league in 1967 and I just finished the 71-72 season. The only person in that list in your first screen shot that is in the game so far is Newsy Lalonde. None of Gretzky, Bossy, Jagr, Overchkin, etc have made an appearance in the game yet. Neither have Lemieux, Crosby, Beliveau, Messier, Lidstrom.... Howe was in the initial set up as a 34 year old. Orr & Phil Esposito were rookies this past season. Rocket Richard was a rookie in the 70-71 season...McKinnon and Kopitar are in this next draft class.... I don't remember if the initial draft was a snake draft though. |
