Yesterday's scheduled finale of our series with the Pelicans was rained out and will be made up in September.

We are in Louisville to play the Colonels a 3 game series over the weekend. They just swept the Robins in 3 games at Richmond. We are 3-3 against them on the season and split a pair of games the 1st time we were here, June 19-20. The Colonels are 11th in scoring with 3.74 runs per game (Jacksonville is last with 3.49). There is a big gap between the top 10 and the bottom 6. #10 Charlotte is at 4.06. Louisville is 5th in fewest runs allowed with 3.81 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.08). Their run differential is -7 and ours is -169.

Jacksonville Jays (37-69 .349 24 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Louisville Colonels (54-54 .500 8 GB in 5th place in the Southern Division)

JAX: Marco Gonzalez (27-R) (2-8 4.16 ERA 106 IP, 117 H, 7 HR, 47 BB, 52 SO) vs.
LOU: Xavier Cervantes (32-R) (6-12 3.67 ERA 137.1 IP, 126 H, 17 HR, 48 BB, 76 SO)

Gonzalez gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings last time out in a loss.

We beat Cervantes in June, scoring 5 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks with 3 strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

P Spencer Shuff (33-R) was sent back to Daytona (A) and there is no one else we can try who has not either already demonstrated that he cannot cut it in the Major Leagues or is getting hammered in A Ball. Pat Marinelli (26-R), who had 3 relief outings for the Jays and did decently, is giving up hits at a .387 clip for the Tortugas. 78.2 IP and 141 hits allowed! In the end, we decided to call up Blair Montgomery (29-R), who wanted to be a starter, but we said he would not start for us due to his lack of stamina. Well, he has enough stamina to go 5 innings and that is further than any of our starters have made it lately... His numbers at Daytona (A) are not encouraging and his 8 HR allowed in 61 IP means he will give up a TON of home runs in the Majors. But who else can we try?

Jacksonville Jays (37-71 .343 25 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Louisville Colonels (56-54 .509 7 GB in 5th place in the Southern Division)

JAX: Mackie Reed (29-R) (6-7 4.41 ERA 130.2 IP, 145 H, 15 HR, 45 BB, 52 SO) vs.
LOU: Ken DeWaters (25-R) (9-5 3.06 ERA 150 IP, 153 H, 9 HR, 42 BB, 76 SO)

Reed only gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts in 7 innings, last time out, but took his 3rd loss in a row as we were shut out.

We faced DeWaters back in April and he beat us, giving us 2 runs on 9 hits, 1 home run and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts in 7 innings. He has not won since June 15, going 0-2 in 8 starts since.

Lineups: Pos Name (Age-Bats BA-AB-HR-RBI-OPS-SB DEF)
JACKSONVILLE
1: 2B Frank Roadman (26-R .206-286-3-19-.548-29 B)

5: 2B Ron Lerche (22-R .277-271-4-27-.739-6 A) Rookie
6: SS Graham Carr (29-R .290-366-0-30-.677-0 B+)
7: 3B Dick Perez (32-R .272-81-2-9-.710-6 C)
8: CF Rob Dickerson (32-R Season debut B)
9: P Ken DeWaters (25-S .205-44-0-1-.477-0 D)

Game Start: 2:05 PM
Ballpark: Colonels Field
Weather: 82 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 9 MPH wind blowing left to right
Attendance: 12,657

Top of the First:
Frank Roadman plunks one in front of the plate and is out, 2-3. Cal Doty hits one a lot farther! He grounds out to the pitcher... Joe Roberts grounds a hit to right. The only player on the team hitting a lick right now... Tony Becerra hits one hard, but lines out to right...

Bottom of the First:
Al Graves beats out an infield hit... Gilmer Duncan pops out to 2nd. Graves steals 2nd. Dick Pavlov grounds out to 3rd. Alan Douglas swings at a 3-2 pitch and pops out to short!

Top of the Second:
Brian Porter doubles off the wall in center! Remember when he was leading the league in doubles back in May with 15? Well he just hit #20, which is nowhere near the League lead anymore... Garrett Bender lines a double to right and Porter scores! 1 to 0, Jays! The next three make outs...

Bottom of the Second:
Ron Lerche swings at the first pitch and lines a hit to center. He is now 9 for 16 (.563) against the Jays with an 1.125 SLG. He tries to steal, but C Garrett Bender throws him out! Graham Carr grounds a hit up the middle. Dick Perez beats out an infield hit. Rob Dickerson grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6, and Carr goes to 3rd. Which brings up P Ken DeWaters with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position.... He swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit to right and Carr scores... Tie Game: 1 to 1.

Top of the Fourth:
With 1 out, Garrett Bender grounds a hit to left and gets balked to 2nd. Dennis Brown hits one to deep center and Rob Dickerson is there in plenty of time, but the ball hits off the heel of his glove for a 2 base error and Bender scores! 2 to 1, Jays! With 2 outs, P Mackie Reed draws a walk. Frank Roadman gets beaned with an 0-2 pitch to load the bases up for our best, albeit cold, hitter, Cal Doty. He swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines one hard to center, but Dickerson makes the catch this time...

Bottom of the Fourth:
With 1 out, Graham Carr grounds a hit to left and steals 2nd, his 1st steal of the season. With 2 outs, we walk Ron Dickerson intentionally to pitch to P Ken DeWaters with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position.... Madness, I say! DeWaters swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit up the middle and Carr scores... Tie Game: 2 to 2. Al Graves lines one to deep center and Cal Doty cannot catch the ball for his 8th error of the season and Dickerson, the intentional walk, scores... 3 to 2, Colonels. Gilmer Duncan lines a hit to left and both runners score... 5 to 2, Colonels. P Mackie Reed has to give us some innings today... Duncan tries to steal, but C Garrett Bender throws him out!

Top of the Fifth:
Joe Roberts doubles to right center. He actually leads the team in doubles now with 25. Wish he would draw a walk every now and then, but beggars can't be choosers, as they say.... The next three all go begging...

Bottom of the Sixth:
Rob Dickerson beats out an infield hit and P Ken DeWaters bunts him to 2nd. With 2 outs, Gilmer Duncan grounds a hit to right and Dickerson scores... 6 to 2, Colonels.

Top of the Eighth:
Tony Becerra grounds one to short, but Graham Carr makes a bad throw to 1st for an error. With 1 out, Garrett Bender grounds a hit to left. Dennis Brown pops a hit to shallow right and the bases are loaded. Junior Danielson flies out to left and Becerra tags up and scores. 6 to 3, Colonels. PH Mike Volkman (33-L) swings at the first pitch and lines a double to left and Bender scores! 6 to 4, Colonels.

Top of the Ninth:
New Pitcher: Gene Hildebrand (31-L), their new closer, who has been in the rotation most of the season. He is 10-8 with 1 SV and a 3.12 ERA in 132.2 IP. Their All-Star closer, Steve Dockery (24-R), is on the DL for 9 more days. Cal Doty pops out to short... Joe Roberts pops out to 2nd... PH Ismael Gonzales (33-R) grounds out to 3rd.... You do not need All-Star closers against us....

Lost - 6 to 3

We are 7-2 against them on the season and we won a pair of games the first time we were here, June 27-28. The only 2 games we have won in the last 19 contests were against them in Jacksonville. The Juice are 7th in scoring with 4.15 runs per game (Jacksonville is #16 with 3.47). They are 13th in fewest runs allowed with 4.45 per game (Jacksonville is #16 with 5.17). Their run differential is -34 and ours is -186, now worse than all of the other teams with negative run differentials combined (-159). Our winning percentage is .339, a pace to lose 107 games, but we are +2 on our Pythagorean projection and should be on a pace to lose 110 games... Though the way things are going, we might not win another game all year and end up with 125 losses....

Jacksonville Jays (37-72 .339 26 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Orlando Juice (46-64 .418 17.5 GB in 7th place in the Southern Division)

ORL: Antonio Perez (26-L) (7-7 3.77 ERA 148 IP, 158 H, 14 HR, 53 BB, 69 SO)

Hartman gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and no walks with 1 strikeout in 4.2 innings last time out, in a loss.

We faced Perez in June and only scored 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks with 7 strikeouts in 8 IP, but he had a no decision and we won the game with 3 runs in the top of the 9th.

Today is Brian Porter's 34th birthday!

We are in Indianapolis to finish up our season series with the Arrows with 4 games through the weekend. We lost 3 of 4 games to them in Jacksonville, April 9-12. They just split a pair of game here with Providence. They are 6th in scoring with 4.23 runs per game (Jacksonville is still last with 3.52). The Arrows are 11th in fewest runs allowed with 4.18 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.16). If we pitch 51 shutouts in a row to finish the season, we would still not lead the League in fewest runs allowed if Ottawa maintains their current pace... Indianapolis has a run differential of +6 and ours is -182.

Jacksonville Jays (38-73 .342 27 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Indianapolis Arrows (52-61 .460 15.5 GB in 7th place in the Northern Division)

IND: Rubin Ligon (28-R) (6-4 4.16 ERA 114.2 IP, 129 H, 8 HR, 49 BB, 61 SO)

Gonzalez gave up 6 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with no strikeouts in 2.2 innings last time out, in a loss. He has lost his last 3 starts.

Ligon only went 1.1 innings against us in April and gave us a run before he left the game with an injury and had a no decision.

There's bad teams.

And there's awful teams.

And there's completely forsaken teams.

And there's teams that were doomed the second they had their first light jog in Spring Training.

And then there's 50 feet o' ****.

And then there's teams that are threatening to reach a -200 run differential in the second week of AUGUST.

P Frank Cook (35-R) was sent back to Daytona (A) and RP Barry Finney (26-R) was recalled. He pitched 2 games for the Tortugas and did not allow a run, so it looks like he is healed from his injury that cost him 2 months of the season.

Yesterday's game was rained out, so we will try to play a doubleheader today. I am not sure I can stomach 2 games in one day.... Although, this is our 3rd doubleheader of the season and we split the other two.

Jacksonville Jays (38-74 .339 27.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Indianapolis Arrows (53-61 .465 14 GB tied for 6th place in the Northern Division)

Game 1
JAX: Mackie Reed (29-R) (6-8 4.38 ERA 137.2 IP, 157 H, 15 HR, 46 BB, 55 SO) vs.
IND: Dave Guindon (29-R) (9-11 4.54 ERA 158.2 IP, 171 H, 16 HR, 50 BB, 108 SO)

Reed gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on 12 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 7 innings last time out, in a loss. He has lost his last 4 starts, but has gone at least 6 innings in each one and 7 innings in the last 3.

Guindon beat us in April, giving us 2 runs on 7 hits, 1 home run and no walks with 2 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Lineups: Pos Name (Age-Bats BA-AB-HR-RBI-OPS-SB DEF)

We are back home, where at least there are bridges! The Columbus Explorers are here to finish up our season series with 4 games. Believe it or not, we won 3 of 4 games in Columbus, June 7-10. That was the high point of our season. We had a 6 game winning streak. The Explorers split 4 games in Orlando over the weekend. They are 13th in scoring with 3.68 runs per game (Jacksonville is last with 3.49). They are 9th in fewest runs allowed with 3.94 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.19). Their run differential is -31 and ours is -196.

By the way, Pia is back. She has been given a raise and I have agreed to sit on my hands in the late innings of any close games.... Trudy is also still around. She never got angry with me; just broke my nose....

Columbus Explorers (53-63 .457 14 GB in 8th (last) place in the Northern Division) at
Jacksonville Jays (38-77 .330 29 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division)

COL: Terry Wilson (29-R) (9-8 3.74 ERA 156.1 IP, 154 H, 13 HR, 45 BB, 126 SO) Rookie vs.
JAX: Blair Montgomery (29-R) (1-7 4.57 ERA 1 SV 61 IP, 73 H, 8 HR, 24 BB, 59 SO in A Ball)

Wilson beat us in June, giving us 1 run on 6 hits, 1 walk and striking out 10 in 8 innings. He is 5-2 in his last 7 starts.

Montgomery is making his Major League debut today. Pia has provided me with a half dozen air sickness bags from her days as a stewardess. I mean flight attendant. Sorry, Pia. No, that is not worth another raise, but if you stick around long enough, you will probably end up making more money than me.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Connie Mack Stadium
Weather: 80 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 16 MPH wind blowing out to right
Attendance: 3,048

A new record low turnout.
That 16 mile per hour wind is not helpful for Montgomery, who seems prone to the long ball...

Top of the First:

Jorge Moreida pops out to right. Tim Dawson grounds out to short. Gabriel Beltran flies out to center! 1-2-3!

Bottom of the First:
Cal Doty flies out to right. Joe Roberts lines out to left. Mike Volkman swings at the first pitch and grounds one to short, but Joe Tirey boots it. Volkman gets caught stealing...

Top of the Second:
Tim Brantley leads off with a walk... Robert Duenas beats out an infield hit. Marc Barksdale grounds into a 5-4-3 double play and Brantley goes to 3rd! Joe Tirey grounds out to 1st, 3-1!

Bottom of the Third:

Frank Roadman grounds a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a hit and then steals 2nd. Rick Dundore takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. P Blair Montgomery bunts the runners up. Cal Doty, batting .175 in August, swings at a 3-2 pitch and flies out to deep left and both runners advance. 1 to 0, Jays! Joe Roberts takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Mike Volkman doubles high off the wall in center and both runners score!1 3 to 0, Jays!

Top of the Fourth:
Tim Dawson takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Gabriel Beltran lines a hit to right center and Dawson beats the throw to 3rd and Beltran takes 2nd... Tim Brantley swings at the first pitch and hits a home run to left... Tie Game: 3 to 3.

Bottom of the Fifth:
P Blair Montgomery doubles to right center! And he calls out Trudy the Trainer... Pinch-runner: Jim Hess (31-R). Cal Doty swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds a double over the 1st base bag and Hess scores! 4 to 3, Jays! Joe Roberts grounds a hit up the middle. Mike Volkman flies out to right and Doty tags up and scores. 5 to 3, Jays! That does it for P Terry Wilson. New Pitcher: Dwayne Shear (32-R), with a 2.65 ERA in 17 IP. He is pitching with a strained oblique. Tony Becerra grounds into a 6-4-3 double play....

Top of the Seventh:
New Pitcher: Roger Wallace (26-R). With 1 out, Joe Tirey swings at the first pitch and lines a hit to right center. With 2 outs, PH Tom Horvath (28-R), batting .324 with 1 HR and 7 RBI in 71 AB, doubles to right center and Tirey scores... 5 to 4, Jays. The Bullpen gets up. Jorge Moreida walks on 4 pitches... Tim Dawson swings at the first pitch and bloops a hit to right center and Horvath scores... Tie Game: 5 to 5. Call to the Bullpen: Bill Grant (30-L), Gabriel Beltran strikes out.

Top of the Eighth:
Tim Brantley gets beaned... Robert Duenas takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Marc Barksdale grounds out slowly to 3rd and the runners advance. Joe Tirey flies out to deep center and both runners advance... 6 to 5, Explorers.

Top of the Ninth:
P Bill Grant strikes out the side in order!

Bottom of the Ninth:

New Pitcher: Bill Ellis (34-R), their closer with 10 SV and 7 losses and a 4.38 ERA in 61.2 IP. PH Bert Swope (29-S) grounds a hit to right. Pinch-runner: Frank Wendell (33-R). Cal Doty grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6. Joe Roberts swings at the first pitch and grounds into a 4-6-3 double play....

Lost - 6 to 5

We had 9 hits and made no errors
Columbus had 7 hits and made 2 errors

Blair Montgomery went 5 innings, allowed 3 runs, 4 hits, 1 home run, 2 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he hit a double.
RHP Jim Kenzy (H 1 ) pitched a perfect inning.
RHP Roger Wallace (BS 3) got 2 outs, allowed 2 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1.
LHP Bill Grant (L 3-2) went 2.1 innings, allowed 1 run, 1 walk, 1 HBP and struck out 4.

Tony Wilson went 4.1 innings, gave us 5 runs, 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 1.
RHP Warren Wynn (W 3-2) went 2 scoreless innings, gave us 2 hits and struck out 2.
RHP Bill Ellis (SV 11) pitched a scoreless 9th and gave us 1 hit.

SS/2B Frank Roadman had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. 2B Rick Dundore drew 2 walks and scored a run. PR Jim Hess scored a run. PH Bert Swope had a hit.

For Columbus, RF Tim Brantley hit his 9th home run of the season, drew a walk, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBI.

Trudy's report on P Blair Montgomery is an oblique strain and she recommends 5 or 6 fays of complete rest. So with this injury plus the doubleheader we played on Saturday, I think we may need 2 spot starters this week...

C Jim Hess (31-R) was sent to Daytona (A) and P Spencer Shuff (33-R) was called up because we do not want to be starting any of our stinky pitchers on short rest. They are bad enough at full energy. Shuff will start tomorrow's game, but we called him up today to make sure he does not pitch today for the Tortugas. If my calculations are correct and Blair Montgomery is ready to go when Trudy says he'll be ready to go, then tomorrow is the only day we will need a spot starter.

Columbus Explorers (54-63 .462 14 GB in 8th (last) place in the Northern Division) at
Jacksonville Jays (38-78 .328 29 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division)

If, by some miracle, we manage to play .500 ball for the rest of the season, we will still lose 101 games....

COL: Terry Luckett (26-L) (12-5 2.30 ERA 168 IP, 161 H, 7 HR, 23 BB, 131 SO) All-Star vs.
JAX: Marco Gonzalez (27-R) (2-10 4.67 ERA 113.2 IP, 127 H, 7 HR, 50 BB, 55 SO)

Luckett is their #1 starter. Believe it or not, one of his 5 losses was to the Jays. We beat him in June, scoring 4 runs on 10 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Gonzalez has lost his last 4 starts. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings last time out.

Bottom of the First:

Bottom of the Third:
Frank Roadman floats a soft hit to center. Cal Doty grounds one to the left of the mound and P Terry Luckett fields it quickly and tries to start a double play at 2nd, but makes a bad throw for an error! With 1 out, we pull off a double steal! Ismael Gonzales, who tripled his first time up, hits a home run to right center!!! 4 to 0, Jays!

Bottom of the Fourth:
Junior Danielson grounds a hit to left. He is now batting .333 in August! Frank Wendell grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4. He steals 2nd. P Marco Gonzalez makes a bid for a home run to left, but it is caught on the warning track and Wendell tags up and beats the throw to 3rd. Frank Roadman grounds a hit up the middle and Wendell scores! 5 to 0, Jays!

Top of the Fifth:
Jorge Moreida lines a double to left, but is hurt. Pinch-runner: Tim Brantley (27-L). It is only the second hit of the game for the Explorers, though P Marco Gonzalez has walked 6 and has not struck out anyone. Correction, he has struck out one, Mike Brewer just now! The next two make outs!

Bottom of the Fifth:
With 1 out, Ismael Gonzales grounds his third hit of the game up the middle. That does it for P Terry Luckett. New Pitcher: Dave Fussell (36-R), with a 3.29 ERA in 38.1 IP. Garrett Bender hits a home run to right center!! 7 to 0, Jays!

Top of the Sixth:
Tim Dawson beats out an infield hit. Marc Barksdale takes a 3-2 pitch for walk #7... The Bullpen gets up. P Marco Gonzalez is at 104 pitches and there is no way he can make through 9 innings. Bottom of the Sixth:
Frank Wendell leads off with a triple to center! PH Joe Roberts (30-L) strikes out... Frank Roadman grounds out to 3rd and the runner holds... Cal Doty grounds out to 1st, 3-1....

Bottom of the Seventh:
2B Rick Dundore (35-R) doubles to right. Ismael Gonzales has not been lifted for a defensive replacement because he needs a double for the Cycle. He pokes his fourth hit of the game to left, but he stops at 1st. Garrett Bender lines a hit to right and Dundore scores! 8 to 1, Jays! Brian Porter doubles to left and Gonzales scores! 9 to 1, Jays. The Explorers are leaving P Dave Fussell in there to take his lumps. Junior Danielson grounds a hit to left and Bender scores! 10 to 1, Jays! Frank Wendell grounds into a force at 2nd, 3-6, and Porter scores. 11 to 1, Jays! We have tied our team record for runs! That is all we get.

Top of the Eighth:
We let P Barry Finney (26-R) bat last inning to try to get him a 3 inning Save and rest the other Bullpen Arms. He got a hit. Marc Barksdale takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Ron Ulrich grounds a hit up the middle. The next three all strike out!!!

Bottom of the Eighth:
New Pitcher: Dwayne Shear (32-R), who pitched 1.2 scoreless innings yesterday and is still pitching with a strained oblique. Rick Dundore takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Ismael Gonzales has another chance to hit a double, but he ends up walking. Garrett Bender grounds his third hit of the game to left and the bases are loaded with no outs. Can we score and break our team record for runs? Hopefully, this is our last opportunity... Brian Porter pops out to left and the runners hold... Junior Danielson strikes out looking... P Shear is hurt. New Pitcher: Chris Scott (35-L), with a 3.11 ERA in 63.2 IP. Frank Wendell grounds out to 2nd....

Won - 11 to 1

We set a new team record for margin of victory!
The old record was 8 in the final start of Victor Espinoza as a Jay.
It is the 4th time we have scored 11 runs in a game. We have never scored more.

We tied our team record for hits!

P Spencer Shuff (33-R) was sent back to Daytona (A) and 1B Rick Tuttle (34-R) was recalled. He was 4 for 36 (.111) for the Jays earlier, but is hitting .342 in August for the Tortugas. Unless we want to call up a slacker, the only choice was between him and LF Barry Laskowski (34-R), who is 1 for his last 16.... Editor's Note: The team would actually be better served by calling up a relief pitcher to go with a 6 man Bullpen since our starters get knocked out early so often, but that seems like it would be cheating. The A.I. does not have that choice and must stick to a 5 man Bullpen, unless we change it for everyone. In to 70's and 80's you would be hard pressed to find a team with an 11 man pitching staff....

Columbus Explorers (55-64 .462 15 GB in 8th (last) place in the Northern Division) at
Jacksonville Jays (39-79 .331 28 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division)

COL: Frank Lytle (27-R) (3-1 4.13 ERA 48 IP, 48 H, 3 HR, 30 BB, 39 SO) vs.
JAX: Mackie Reed (29-R) (6-9 4.51 ERA 143.2 IP, 164 H, 17 HR, 49 BB, 56 SO)

Lytle began the season in their rotation, but only got 1 start in May, 1 start in June and none in July due to injuries. We have not faced him. He gave up 3 runs, on 6 hits and 6 walks with 4 strikeouts in 8 innings in a no decision last time out.

Reed has lost 5 starts in a row, but has gone at least 6 innings every time. Last time out, he gave up 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 home runs and 3 walks with 1 strikeout in 6 innings.

CF Cal Doty had one of his best games ever! He went 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts and made an error... The Birmingham Barons are here to play a 3 game series over the weekend. They just lost 3 of 4 in Ottawa. We are 3 and 6 against them on the season and split a pair of games the last time they were here, July 3-4. They are 9th in scoring with 4.01 runs per game (Jacksonville is last with 3.57). We are only 1 run out of the 15th spot (New Orleans)! The Barons are 4th in fewest runs allowed with 3.79 per game (Jacksonville is last with 5.13). We are only 58 runs from the 15th spot (Hartford)! Birmingham's run differential is +26 and ours is -186.

Birmingham Barons (63-58 .521 5 GB in 3rd place in the Southern Division) at
Jacksonville Jays (40-79 .336 27 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division)

Bieda is making his season debut today. He used to be an up and coming prospect, but injuries have derailed his career.

Gaddis gave up 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout in 7.1 innings last time out in a no decision.
