Season 20 (2039) General Discussion

The moment the Mets, dumped into Iron for being a feckless theme team, started 0-3 against a team with live diamonds in their rotation, and even worse in other places, I decided that maybe the problem sits in front of the laptop and I shouldn't log in again until the weekend.

The third weekend in March, that is.

After an offseason of buying Diamonds in the auction house and one day into season 20, all decked out in IRON....

Longview Woodchucks (205) are 15-12, second place in division, holding on to a wildcard spot. A mixed bag of results...but middle of the pack in most categories. Disappointed in my 93 Chris Sale, so far 0-4 with a 6.60 ERA but have two other starters with ERAs below 2. My 90 Kris Bryant is hitting .337

Nacogdoches Jacks (155), where I bought the most Diamonds (and have 16 Diamonds total) are 16-10 with a 2.5 game division lead. Two batters (Ozzie Albies and Duke Snider) both hitting over .300 but the rest of the lineup is batting horrid....pitching is good with a 3.5 ERA across the board.

Stephanie's Neffin-neff (244) are 18-8, 3 game division lead and second best record in the league. Batting is solid, Billy Williams and Ozzie Albies both hitting over .380, starters not doing bad but could be better, bullpen is solid. Fielding needs work as errors are high and zone rating is bad.

But it's only one day....

D353: All-Star Break

The Huntley Red Raiders are in first place at the All-Star Break. In a seeming rarity at the Diamond level, both George Sisler and Babe Ruth are tearing it up. Not knowing if it will last, I will savor this.

The Magpies jumped out to a 7 game lead at the end of May by over-performing. But, June and July regressed to the mean in a big way. Nevertheless, a slender 2 game lead is mine. The teams chasing me are certainly better, or should I say, more expensive to acquire, so I don't know what is going on. I sure wish I could win a game like this one:

BLM Allies and Tootsie Roll Pops were both in my league last year and iirc they were both well over 100 win teams. You have some pretty stout competition in 359 and to have both in your division is crazy. I'm a little surprised at their records so far

Paragon City tried to use a ''proper'' 3b in Mike Schmidt, his numbers were nowhere near good enough and we were in a tight race, sold him, reinstated Eddie Collins at 3b and bought Ray Dandridge as platoon 3b and backup IF and we've gone 7-2 including beating the best team in the league 3-0. Lefty Gomez and Eppa Rixey are dominating on the mound. opened up a 12 game league

Bad News Barnstormers started the season well, hit the skids in July losing the division lead while going 11-15. the move to the 2 hole is looking good for Jackie, looks likely to set a few career highs thanks to Willie Wilson leading off. the pitching is mediocre

Ouch! Save this for your current potential playoff opponent?

This season everything is swapped. Righties ballpark yet the team is better on the road. Record vs lefties is worse than vs righties though my lineup are righties only etc.

The Raccoons are obviously not fit for Gold, hovering three games above the relegation zone, and there is no way to help them.

The Mets have a comfortable lead in their village league and at least have gobbled up over 12k points this week (so far), with Carl Furillo standing out with a 3.5k game in May.

Of course there were the good old days where 12k would have most likely bought you a new low-diamond historical Met or Brooklyn Dodger or New York Giant.

Those times are over.

What is the advantage of .500 Doubles and Triples? I don't believe I have seen teams set this so low?

Gonzalez is probably anxious to play on the road?

How is it even letting those be set so low? I thought the limit was .1?

Doubles and triples are 0.500 to 1.500
The other ballpark factors are 0.900 to 1.100.

I understand using 0.500 if you are strictly a pitching and defense team, but in this case you want your righties to hit and your limiting the speed hitters like Jennings, Wagner and especially Robinson.

After saving for a few weeks, I just blew my wad (of PP) and think the all-power, no defense team I started out as in Rookie has now been transformed in to a better upper level team. They're in the running now for a Gold WC spot, just added Cool Papa and Monte Ward to the mix.

1 - Monte Ward 98, 3b / platoon with Red Schoendienst 88
2 - Cool Papa Bell 94, LF
3 - Ichiro Suzuki 92, RF
4 - Cap Anson 96, 1b
5 - Carl Yastrzemski 99, DH / platoon with Gregg Jefferies 77
6 - Yogi Berra 100, C
7 - Robinson Cano 97, 2b / platoon with Edgar Renteria 79
8 - Garry Templeton 87, SS
9 - Lenny Dykstra 88, CF / platoon with Willard Brown 75 (Ichiro to CF)

I need another SP probably more than anything. But for the lineup I would like to upgrade Templeton to an uber defensive SS when I can afford to. Maybe another speed guy to really have a running theme going, the idea of some small ball seems smart considering how good the pitching is getting at Gold.

And get some better platoon players, although the ones I have play fairly well despite the relatively low overall ratings.

Hoping they are close to being able to graduate from Gold - and most likely get killed in Diamond. But getting there will be a nice achievement in itself as they are F2P.

This looks like a decent hitting and defense team. Templeton is worthy at the price. To get a SS upgrade you are seeking takes $$$. Who are your big name pitchers and what are your park factors?

Yeah Templeton isn't a star but for what he cost he's more than worth it. I'd be happy with someone like the 92 Aparicio card if I could get a good deal on one, have him on one of my other teams. Like the 98 Glasscock card too, but it's double+ the price of Little Louie.

The rotation:

Greg Maddux 99
Jerry Koosman 97
Jason Schmidt 96
Bert Blyleven 94
Mike Soroka 89

Definitely need to upgrade over Soroka, he was a pack pull. And Blyleven I think would be better in the pen. But need the $$ first.

Pen:

Closer - Joe Nathan 93
Setup - John Franco 89
Middle - Mark Wohlers 89
Middle - Stan Belinda 87
Specialist/Middle - Steve Howe 93
Specialist - Jose Mesa 87
Specialist - Brian Fuentes 84

Would love a few upgrades there, but the pen is usually the last piece of the puzzle that I work on. Relievers in PT21 are much more expensive than 19 and 20 so it will probably be a while before I do much to the pen.

Fuentes really sucks. Franco has been better than Howe which is kind of surprising.

Perhaps I should adjust the doubles as I tweaked this setting when I didn't have Honus and Jackie. Point was to counter high contact teams relying on doubles and benefit from above average defense with high MOV & CON pitching...

Gonzalez is another thing which is swapped - he is batting better at home than road!

Oh and these are the current park factors. Trying to make it slightly offense-friendly but not too crazy, and hope my defense makes up for it to help my pitchers:

I have been considering Howe since he has great control .
