100 Bench or 100 Berra

Obviously Berra hits better but does Bench's def make that much difference?

both..... one vs RHP, the other vs LHP, and I don't think Bench defense is much better than Berra's, at least when we translate that into actual defensive KPI's.

The new guy on the block would be Joe Mauer. Just an example of why it doesn't pay to spend heavily on the first cards released.

I'm running Berra/Torre. Another good split would be Elston Howard or Roy Campanella with Yogi

I can vouch for Elston Howard as a nice, inexpensive option. He's not going to win any batting awards, but thus far for me he hits in the .250 - .270 range so he's not going to be a complete dead spot in the lineup. He often finishes with a better CERA than Berra. This season for me, Elston is hitting .350 with a .378 OBP, I'm sure that will come back to earth some, but he's a solid backup for little investment (that is until the Yankees FOTF comes out, then expect to see him rocket into the 50-60K range -- I think I paid about 21K, his L7 right now is 25K). Also, he can sub in LF and 1B. He has a nice LF defensive rating (79).

I will also state my support for Elston Howard - I'm getting nearly the same results in the Gold League and paid nearly the same price for him. Definitely a solid card, especially against lefties.

On a side note, does anyone have data on whether Special Edition Berra (100) is better than Legend Berra (98)? I would think that the difference would be negligible, but with this game, such an assumption could be foolish.

I platoon 100 Berra with Howard in one of my teams and at Diamond he slugged .895 .847 .854 .830.Another team has had one season of 98 Berra at Gold and he slugged 727 vs RHP.

Hitting .179 in 37 games in Gold!

If you don't have a blue contact rating, don't even show up. No wonder he's well under 100k as well.

Does anyone have a read on Legend Bench vs Legend Campanella in a vL half of a platoon? Roy's high power and low AvK is a little spooky but racoon man has Bench as a scrub in a limited sample size
