Just bought the game but cannot play because i'm having a error message.

Hi guys, I'm a brazilian baseball fan so first i apologize for my bad english. I always wanted to play OOTP baseball but never could, this year i finally managed to buy the game (OOTP21) on Steam, but i'm receiving a error message saying "it is unable to open or create the application data folder. Please reinstall Out of the park baseball" I tried re-instaling the game multiple times but it didn't change. I've searched online for some help but didn't found anything. I was always a console gamer so I don´t know a lot about PC configuration when it comes to gaming and/or Steam. I would love to get some help if anybody could because I was verry excited to play the game but unfortunately it didn't work.


I received a comment via Reddit to try to post this message here so I could find a solution. Sorry if I've posted in the wrong place or something like that, first time using this forum.

Only thing I can think of is maybe try "run as administrator"?

If that doesn't help hopefully someone else with more knowledge comes along.

Thanks, I tried running both Steam and OOTP21 as an administrator but it didn't change anything, the error message keeps showing unfortunately.

Can you let us know the folders you have OOTP installed to? It may be there is an issue there, for instance if you use a non-ascii character in the folder name.

If you try this, it should hopefully fix things.

a) Create a new folder named something simple, like this, C:\ootp21

b)Check under (you have to let the explorer show hidden folders) C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\config

Find the 'paths.cfg' file there.

Open it with notepad, or if it's not there, create a new textfile called paths with the .cfg extension.

Within the textfile it should read:
path_user_data
D:\ootp 21\data ( Or whatever the actual path of the new path of the new folder you created above is.)

Then try running the game again. Does it work for you now?

Hi, thanks for the help, but let me understand first all I have to do.



When i search for the game files within the steam app they take me to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Out of the Park Baseball 21"



I have created the new folder with C:\OOTP21


When i search for the "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\config" I receive a message saying that Windows cannot find it.

I did what you said, I created the "ootp21" folder on C:



I've checked under C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\config. But for some reason:



1 - It shows a OOTP 20 folder



2: It does not have a paths.cfg' file there on config.


I've done also like you said created the .cfg file with "path_user_data
D:\ootp 21\data" in it but it also didn't work out.



The same error happens: "it is unable to open or create the application data folder $userdata. Please reinstall Out of the park baseball"

Thinking here, my usar name is joÃo so maybe the à in the user name is the cause of the problem. But i couldn't make it work yet tho.

When i go to my user folder i can not find a the OOTP 21 folder, the OOTP 20 folder was there because of the time that i downloaded the game from a friend Steam account. So I can't find the "paths.cfg" to solve the problem. I really don't understand why the folder does not shows there, even with me re-instaling the game now up to 10 times.

I would really like some help, I'm really lost with this problem because this was my first Steam purchase and the game was not cheap,at least for my brazilian standards. Evan worse was the antecipation to finally play it and it not working.

Just to double check, when you search for 'C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\config' you're actually changing the spot in that where it says 'yourusername' to your actual username, right?

I assume so, but just wanted to make 100% sure

In your AppData\Roaming folder, do you find any folders at all for OOTP21, even if they're in a different place than I'd described, or is there just nothing there at all for OOTP21?

Yes, I'm writing my user name, actually was in this part that i tought that the ã could be causing trouble.



In the AppData\Roaming folder in my user name I can't find nothing like "OOTP" or "Out of the Park Baseball", just folders with other apps names.

Since it's a bit hard to switch the install directory of a Steam game without changing all your game's directories, and since it also sounds like the game is not fully installing on Steam for you, I think maybe the best thing to do here would be to get you a copy of the standalone game and see if we can get that running.

Can you send me an email with a copy of your Steam receipt when you get a chance? Once I get it, I'll work on getting that to you, if you're willing to give that a shot.
