Considering Dropping F2P
I have become somewhat frustrated with the incremental growth I have experienced over the last three years of perfect team. I am thinking of putting a moderate amount of money, probably not more than $100, in on the game. If anybody has made the transition before, was it worth it?

Save your money and wait for the points sale before spending. I think there is some F2P friend leagues?

I've pretty much given up on the leagues. Its tourneys and ripping the results for me. If I get a big card or a slew of PPs I'll scan the AH for what I can afford and if there's something better than what I've got, I'll go for it. otherwise, Rip Rip Rip

There's little chance of me investing anything into PT. The chasm between F2P opportunities and the Whales is so great, even $500 wouldn't get you past Gold as things stand now.
It's become an all-or-nothing game.

I think it is worth it to invest $100 or so in order to obtain a player or players that would make the game more enjoyable for you. I wouldn't do it if you expect $100 to make you a top team. You need to add a zero for that purpose.

I get the sentiment but this is an exaggeration.. $500 would allow you to complete the live missions and add a few high end players on top of that. You'd be in diamond at that point before maxing out

If you can afford it and if that would make it more enjoyable, then go for it.
As some others have said, $100 isn't buying a ticket to the next whale house party. But, it could make a few things you want to do marginally easier.

This was my first season in diamond. I was the last team to NOT get relegated which was disappointing for a few reasons. Mainly, I never thought I would want my team to fail so I could drop to Gold and have fun again, as this week I got beat down most series. The other disappointing takeaway is I currently have just over 200,000PP and after spending much time on the AH, there are not enough options to actually help me move forward (I think). I've been saving for weeks, and had a bit of a plan, then FOTF dropped and many of the cards I was interested in skyrocketed in price, or disappeared completely. I guess what I'm saying is in my opinion, the points $100 will get you will not make much of a difference, I think. Maybe I am wrong, but looking at the teams in diamond that aren't even in the top 5 of my league, they have multiple cards that are over 200,000PP upgrades and still just muddle along as well.

Spending money on the game sends the signal to the dev team that they are doing the right thing. If you disagree with the way the game is heading don't spend a penny

Better yet, provide constructive feedback about what you don't like, and how you think it would work better.

Hundreds of suggestions; some good, some bad. But the overall issue in my opinion is the "relationship" between the base PT game, Tournaments, and Collections.
What I think has happened is the attempt to make Tournaments and Collections more interesting, there was little consideration as to how those changes/improvements would effect the base game. The balance between how well the base game works depends heavily on what you do with the other two branches of the game. This year, those changes inflated the Auction House to a point that non-$$ teams had no chance to do anything other than sludge around in the bottom 3 levels. I admit maintaining that balance is hard, but it's critical to have a successful game that attracts the most players. I know we'll never see the numbers, but I have to believe a full 50% of the 19,000+ teams in PT have been abandoned or at least are now on "weekly watch". The real question, however, comes down to who do you cater to? The customer that spends the most money, or everyone? We'd all like to think the latter, but world reality says different.

Would it be possible to have a points cap league where there is a limit on how many points your 26 man roster has!

I don't begrudge anyone that can't or doesn't want to spend extra. Your money, your choice. Thanks to the CCP, I've got extra cash that used to go to food and gas when I had to go into the office all the time, so I've sprung for a few extra PP. I can't get my employer to sponsor my team into full on whaledom yet, but I keep trying.

Regardless, I've got 2 f2p teams in Diamond, and a $100 team. I've been in Perfect 3 times across the teams. To dismiss the possibility of gold+ without putting money in is crazy. To the OPs point though, $100 isn't going to drastically change your team. It's not going to magically make you win diamond and compete in Perfect. If you're wanting put some money in and grab a favorite player or something, fine, but don't expect $100 to push you over the edge into competing at Perfect.

You missed my point. I don't expect to make it to the higher levels. All I'm saying is that PT21 makes it significantly harder to compete than the previous two versions and that is mostly due to the fact that the Auction House prices have gone through the roof - and a team of Diamonds and Gold players use to fair better in PT19/20 than they do in PT21.
