Is there a way to customize the currency name and symbol?

Yes

I'm not sure where, maybe the league financials tab, there's an option for type of currency - quite sure.

There are 5 or 6 predefined options. I was wondering if there was a way to do something completely custom

Great question! I'd like my baseball universe to use pork bellies as the main form of currency. I'm currently in negotiations, but a deal seems likely very soon. So, we'll be able to use the term Porky Pigs as well. Example: "Ken Griffey Jr. needs to step up production if he's hoping to earn a nice big contract extension. Anonymous sources are saying the deal may be worth up to 175,000 Porky Pigs per season." Instead of a Euro, Pound or Dollar symbol, we'd have the face of, you guessed it, Porky Pig. For some reason, Markus hasn't gotten back to me yet on this...

One of the things that has annoyed me a bit is that the symbol for Pounds sterling seems to be GBP, not £.

A year or two ago there was an issue with the '£' symbol where it had another character displaying in front of it. They changed it to 'GBP' after that was raised - I hoped that was just a quick fix and it would be changed back to '£' later on but that hasn't happened yet. Maybe it's been forgotten about.

I was hoping the list you can choose from was tucked away in some file and I’d be able to edit it or that there was some obscure tag that I could add to the world database file but I guess it’s all hard coded into the game
