Rudy May Game 7 No-No...
The 1979 Montreal Expos win it all over the White Sox in 7, May was brilliant -- fired a No-Hitter...
Not bad for a guy who finished in the top 10 for wild pitches 3 times in his career. He was also a PADI certified scuba diver, so this no-no would rank right up there with that. |

Ahhh.. Mr. Rudy May. He was a member of my 1981 Yankees team, which happened to be my very first saved game. He was only cut out for relief work on my team and even that he did poorly. I'll never forget nor will I ever forgive Mr. Rudy May. He caused a lot of heartbreak to this young, inexperienced General Manager.
![]() BTW, I love the OOTP Almanac... Thanks OOTP Dev Team!! ![]() Oh, but congrats on his World Series Winning No-No for you.

Well pitched game
Hope he buys his defense some watches, or vegetarian lasagna, or whatever... |

I love how the game recap isn't cognizant at all of the no-hitter.

Impressive to see the White Sox sneak in. They were not good IRL in '79, and their most notable highlight would have to be their Disco Demolition night forfeit of the second game of a doubleheader against the Tigers at Comiskey Park.

Re: The White Sox in the 1979 World Series
I was thinking along exactly the same lines but 'impressive' wasn't the first word that came to mind. I think 'crazy' was first, followed by 'absurd' and - when I stopped laughing - three words 'WTF?' The 1979 White Sox were a wretched team as I recall. I think the 1977 Sox had a pretty prolific offence but not enough pitching. But had that team made the WS it would have come as much less of a surprise. No matter. I hope the OP enjoyed his season and it is GREAT to see an Expos team win it all, no matter the year. That '79 club was very good. Very close to, if not THE best pitching in the NL and all those young hitters - Dawson, Carter, Valentine, Parrish, etc. - coming of age. It was in many ways IMHO the most enjoyable Expos season of them all. Damn Pirates IRL. |
