Lineouts/Deep fly balls

A few different things...

Every time pbp says "line drive.." the ball is caught. Would be nice for some of those line drives to go through so the call is not so predictable.

If I do a hit and run with a runner on 1st, runner always makes it back to the base safely on a lineout to the infield. No matter how good of a base-runner you are there are going to be times when you're nailed.

I see too frequently a ball caught on the warning track with a fast runner on 3rd. PBP will say "runner is going to try to score." Well, no kidding. Ball is very deep and runner is fast. Granted, runner doesn't get thrown out at home hardly at all in those situations but the pbp makes it seem more difficult than it should be.

After playing 10 hours of the actual game (not simming) i can say without a doubt the pbp and animation are not in synch at all.
Not sure what actually gets logged behind the scenes.
Kinda takes some fun out of it as i want to believe that everything is factored in the actual play (abilities, weather, ball park, fatigue, etc etc)
alas, it is probably just something that looks at what average is supposed to be so it is really predetermined to a degree

Not that it matters but I'm not even considering animation. I'm just talking pbp. I think I'll be waiting a year or two before diving too deeply into using animation.

1. Not true.

2. Not something I have control of. Matt would have to look into it.

3. I tweaked a few text objects. Thanks for the idea.

#1 is absolutely true for me. I'm not exaggerating either. Every single time the pbp says line drive with an ellipsis, ball is caught by nearest infielder.

It is a little weird how that the animation can show the OF catching a fly ball on the warning track against the wall, and then the game asks if you want the runner to try to score from third when "The ball is very shallow ..."

I have actually had the runner thrown out.

I've added some more "line drive..." (but not caught) text objects to the ones already present in the database. Hopefully, this will ensure more of them will occur during game play.

Actually I owe you an apology. I paid closer attention and did see that the line drive...text does have different outcomes. I guess I notice the ones that are caught by infielders and didn't pay enough attention overall.

Just my opinion:
I always liked the PBP... never used the amination because it was so poorly done... to me, it is amazing the progress animation has made in the last few versions... now I much prefer the animation over the PBP text mode.

You might want to check it out... I use OOTP21... but I will be two patches behind soon... there were too many crashes for me to use the latest patch, so I haven't downloaded yet... I am very pleased with the animation, it is not flawless, but, in my opinion, it really immerses you in the game... reports are the last patch addressed many animation problems... and I would suspect this new patch will make it even better.

I understand the second baseman now tags the base on a forceout at second... hope the third baseman sometimes tags third base for a forceout... or tags the baserunner from second for an out... or tags third base and doubles the runner at first... would like to see infielders tag the baserunners sometimes instead of making a throw.

All these things happen (except tagging the runner, that I don't think I've seen) (in OOTP XX)
