Custom Award usage

Can someone please discuss how they use custom award?
You can create one, however i never see any voting or context around it.
Or history??

There is history in the Awards tab of League History if you have one created, I have never voted for awards always do manual so I can select for my award which is WPA Leader because I think that it is a neat little stat.

I used to use it as Playoff MVP back in the day Before we had those.

Oh, man.

I've used mine in a variety of ways, mostly because (I think, don't quote me on this) it gives a slight boost to HoF candidacy and I don't always feel like overruling the AI.

- When I figured out you could have one, I used it as a straightforward batting title. Not super useful, and the Black Ink metric already covers that anyway.

- At one point, it was called the Premio Presidencial and it was awarded to the player with the highest WAR, WPA, etc., on the worst team. That was kind of a cool concept, but not something I wanted to do with only one award to hand out.

- Currently, it's called the Misérrimo ("Saddest") and I award it to the player who's had the most errors in the past year. (In my Rust Belt/Great Lakes league, it's the Mangler.) It's a fun little thing to see people "win," especially because this is 1885 baseball and the errors easily go into the triple digits.

- In the future, I'm probably going to change it over to something like a "Dean of the League" (seniority award), a "Mr. Baseball" (combo of popularity/personality/performance), or a Comeback Player of the Year type thing.

I have one for most stolen bases, the golden shoe. You have to manually vote though in order for it to show up on player pages and history. I've forgotten a couple of seasons.

I used to have one called the Giddyup Award for most GIDP.

I also do SB, it's usually the Rickey Henderson Award but I've done Cool Papa Bell, Lou Brock, or a fictional record holder in long-running games.

I call mine Golden Spikes. I just renamed the custom award in all my 4 main leagues in my EBL vs MLB universe so its all the same. Each league was something else prior to this season. i do manual so i can select it and post the player who won it after the season, otherwise it doesnt seem to show up til January.

I think I remember this from the last time we had one of these threads... but I don't remember a picture, did you make a custom icon for your award? That's pretty sweet!

Similar, mine is for a combination of SB/2B/3B but, like Mizzourah, I've forgotten a couple of times. Glad I'm not the only one!!

I like the idea of having one for the worst player in the league (probably going with the most negative WAR). I might call it the "What is it good for?" Award

I also thought about making it playoff MVP.

The negative-WAR award is a great idea; if I keep it as the Misérrimo I'll eventually have to go to that.

I don't use custom awards anymore. I always find that I forget to award it one year which turns into a stain on my league (it irritates me everytime i see it blank

) so it hurts the immersion.

I've used it for my own teams MVP sometimes (just to help me remember) but otherwise it would be Playoff MVP and in my Canadian League it would be Canadian player of the year.

It really is time for OOTP to make drop down lists for custom awards and really expand on them and adding league wide awards, playoff mvp etc. They've been the exact same for as long as I can remember. Manager of the Year was added not long ago but even that isn't right and seemed like a band-aid tacked on.

I am thinking of making a Splinter Award since our online leagues can track days on the DL...

I think you'd have a lot of ties. I feel like at least two guys go down for the season before it even starts. I use the realistic injury option though, so maybe it would work on normal or low.

Hear, hear—I get why it's not a priority, don't get me wrong, but I'd even settle for being able to vote for Manager of the Year.

Though I suppose I do like seeing what the computer values in its managers, because with the massive playoff format I've got, I love it when someone gets MOTY after winning the division and getting immediately bounced out in the first round.

I assume AI never votes for the award. And it is just a manual thing the player 'assigns'?
Not sure if you could vote for it in an online league??
