Can't place eligible player on playoff roster
See screenshot. I'm trying to move Josh Osich to the playoff roster, but it isn't allowing me to. What's wrong here? Even the symbol is there indicating he's eligible.
Edit: I should note, however, that the game is indicating more players are eligible than actually are. For example, from the screenshot, Jeffrey Springs was never on my active roster this year, let alone prior to the 9/1 roster expansion. Edit 2: Furthermore, I was able to add someone who should not have been eligible (Darwinzon Hernandez), as we was in Triple-A until at least September 5th. Pretty sure you can't add/remove players once a series has started. Have to wait til it ends.

According to the original screenshot, the series hadn't started yet, so that wouldn't be the issue. The other players are eligible because you have the rules set so that anyone on the 40-man roster as of Sept 1 is eligible, which is why guys like Springs would be eligible yet not having appeared in the majors.
Otherwise, what is the exact error it's giving? Is it simply not allowing it, or does it say that the roster is full, or something else? |

I went based on the screenshot saying the playoffs started today.
Does that count as having started, even though a game hasn't been played yet? |

Damn it. I should have screenshot the error. It was simply explaining the rules to me. As the screenshot shows, I have one open roster spot. I’ve since moved way past this in my league. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Surely, you would be able to track down the message in some way. Again, I should have screenshot it, but in my stupidity, I only took a screenshot of the roster. |

I have the same question. Player shows up as an option for the playoff roster (playoff game has not been played). They are on the 40 man roster and appeared in games prior to 9/1 (8 games in June and 1 game in July). Here is the dialog box when attempting to move him to the PO roster.

I'm having this problem, with the same dialog box from the last post. It's easy enough to make a spot on the playoff roster, but the active roster stays full. That seems to be blocking eligible minor leaguers from the playoff roster because it's also trying to put a 29th player on the active roster.

As I think about this more I guess baseball requires you to be on the expanded active roster to be on the playoff roster which would make sense. But all the way until 2019, the expanded active roster and the 40 man roster were basically the same thing, so you had a lot more choices. Now, though, do you have to demote someone, if there are at least 3 active people you want to replace for a playoff round? |

I had this same issue so I just removed playoff roster limits to get around it. Sucks :/

I'm still paralyzed by it because I can't find out if, when MLB changed the expanded active roster from 40 to 28 IRL, they allowed someone to be on the playoff roster without being on the active roster or not. If not, then real teams just got much less flexibility in organizing their playoff roster too. Ultimately, I'd just like to follow the actual rule. It's the wild card and I'd rather not have my 10/5 SP who started Game 162 on the roster for that game. Last edited by hscer; 06-15-2020 at 07:10 PM. |

It's been noted but the player has to be on the 28 man roster as well as the 40 to add him.
Took me a bit to figure this out. |

Okay I can accept that at this point I guess. I still wonder, is that how the new rule in MLB transferred too, or is it just left over in OOTP from the previous rule? Unfortunately MLB's own resources are unhelpful on this question, or at least I can't read the answer into them. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/26-man-roster http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactio...es-eligibility |

The 26 man active roster isn't maintained in the offseason (only the 40 man). Perhaps the solution is to patch it and eliminate it at seasons end, with playoff teams selecting straight from the 40. |

I guess MLB planned to cross that bridge when they came to it...which is probably 15 months from now at this point... Sounds like a good solution you have, especially if MLB doesn't actually have concurrent "active" and "postseason" rosters. If they do, then the playoff limits are indeed more restrictive than previously. But I'll assume they don't--unless I'm reading you wrong--and probably just set the expanded active roster limit from 28 to 40 during the playoffs and offseason. Hopefully that doesn't confuse the AI somehow... |

I just had this issue.. You have to remove a player from the 28 man roster, either demote, waive or release, then you'll be at 27 and can then move over an eligible player to the playoff roster. You'll see you'll be back up to 28 players on your active roster. You can do this more than once as long as you free up a player on the active roster and pull from your available playoff roster. (max of 26 players on playoff roster if you're using MLB rules)
