Spring training benefits
So I'm wondering about the true benefit of spring training. I feel in the majors there are two main parts of it. Getting back into playing form and also roster battles.
While the roster spot battle can happen in the game is the conditioning part a factor? I usually shorten my spring training down to 2-3 weeks but I'm considering just leaving it out altogether. So my question is has anyone seen a negative in he game to leaving out spring training? |

I've shortened my spring training down to three weeks in one of my sims. Never noticed a problem.
The manual, to which there is a link in my signature, has info about what happens in spring training |

Awhile back a user posted his study on spring training defensive ratings gained. One of the take away's was that if you started a player at a new position he demonstrated some rating improvement. If he came in the game not as a starter he did not show improvement.

Since there are no defensive stats collected during spring training, there's no way to know which players to improve defensively and by how much It should be changed, especially since spring training is a time when more players are entering the game as substitutes |

The game does have "rust". It takes about 2 weeks of being on an active roster to remove it. They don't even have to play any games just be on the active roster. So spring training and rehab assignments serve that purpose.
I guess people also use spring training to learn extra positions. But I micro manage my minor leagues so I have all my prospects basically learn every position they can in the minors by force starting all of my prospects. I check them all the time and rotate their positions. Mostly all the middle infielders can play the entire diamond to some degree. So I make sure they learn them Sometimes you get players that can field every where aka super utility guy. Even if they don't make the show often good trade material. Considering they can start at 7 positions. |

You can make a short spring training. I've made a spring training for about two weeks. If you do that, it'll even give you a spring training before the first season
