Tips for shopping players?
I'm trying to shop Benintendi in the 2022 offseason, he's on the last year of his contract for $12mil, and I don't want to extend him for what he's asking. So I shop him (retaining 70% for a little extra value) for all outfielder prospects, and don't get anyone higher than 2.5 star potential. Feels like I should have at least a couple teams more interested than that. Trading is on very hard, favour prospects. I could switch to easy of course, but either way, it feels off, a 4 star player coming off a 5 war season should net a decent haul. Anyone have some insight?

Pending FA players don't have as much value as you think. His trade value is low because he's a potential rental.

Doesn't sound that bad. Eat 100% of his contract a prospect with 2.5 potential if under 23 years old is actually pretty solid. Especially if you are using there stats gained in minor leagues to help you out. Ratings aren't the only thing you need to look at.
Most players in MLB in OOTP are 2.5 to 3.5 stars. So that 2.5 guy might be a future all star. Age and stats can help you decide if its worth it or not. |

"Very hard, favour prospects" would be the worst settings for this kind of trade, so it's not surprising that the offers seem unrealistic. However, the guys you get offered when you shop a player are not necessarily the best ones you can get. You might want to use the Shop tool to identify the teams that are willing to offer the most, and then poke around their systems to try and find a better deal. Or just approach the teams that would seem to need him the most, although I find the AI tends not to be rational about positional need.

Depending how bad the guy coming over is, you can get one or more prospects or swap a prospect for a better one. If you take a team's anchor contract, they'll often throw in a decent AAA guy for nothing too, or even a reliever. Just like the real Mets, I had to pay in prospects to get rid of Cano, Familia, etc. in the season I just played. Fortunately the salary dumps I got back filled holes in the lineup and the team got better in multiple ways, since I could afford more extensions.

As a place to start offer him with paying his full salary.
You're likely to see what's the best you can hope for that way. I usually do a bunch of back and forth on the potential exchange. When I finally get one I like, I'll then start lowering the % of the salary I'm paying to see if I can reduce my chunk. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, but it's always worth trying. |

Always shop with 100% salary retention.
If you aren't getting anything interesting, I sometimes lower the trade difficulty to see who the AI might be interested in dealing and then raise it back to normal and negotiate from there. |

And ties into the suggestion that I made here https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=318198 Allows the user to see what players the AI is interested in instead of just what deals they are willing to make |
