![]() As for the World Series, the Marlins have what it takes to beat the Yankees, and the Yankees rotation, their strength, is in complete disarray after this game. If the Marlins can jump out early, they've got a shot.

Thank God for hockey?
Uh, don't forget you've got to sit through 6 months of relatively meaningless games before you get to the good stuff in April, the playoffs. And by then baseball is back again... |

They should just cancel the World Series, it's going to be so anti-climatic it's even not funny. It was a tremendous post season though. if only the Cubs and Red Sox could of held their 3 run leads in game 7, we'd have a great World series to look forward to... Oh well, I hope the Yankee and Marlin fans enjoy the series, because they will be the only ones watching

Oh well, the Sox had a good run at it--right until the end. Now what to do until spring training...

![]() And I agree, once the Cubs were eliminated, the potential ratings for this series went down the tubes.

There - tantalizing baseball fans everywhere - is the promise of a Fall Classic featuring two of the most passionately beloved and star-crossed teams in the history of sports. A World Series with just one of those teams in it promises to be special. Baseball, the greatest of games, in the limelight at Fenway Park or at Wrigley Field or at both. Baseball could have used it. Instead, thanks to inept managing, rotten luck and, admittedly, some gutsy play by the opposing teams neither the Cubs nor the Red Sox is going to be there. Instead of history, magic and baseball in places where baseball really exudes its greatest charms it is going to be baseball in a crummy teal football stadium in Miami where (I'd be willing to bet) that half the fans can't name more than 7 players on their team. Our other backdrop, the Bronx -- nothing new there -- and the best team money can sustain, the Evil Empire in pinstripes yet lacking any of the character of great Yankee dynasties of the past. No Bronx Zoo this team! Cold, veteran, wealthy and infinitely dull.... I'm obviously just bitter...my team didn't even make the playoffs and I don't care for either of the teams in the World Series. In another world, I'd be cheering loudly for the Marlins -- they are a heck of a team, fun to watch, the gritty underdogs (are they really underdogs?) that you hope can topple a monolithic power like the Yankees. ...but in this world I really can't see cheering for the fans of Miami to have a championship. Who are these fans? Where were they when this team was rebuilding, when there was talk of getting the heck out of Florida? There are surely some long-time Florida diehards, but when there are baseball fans who've been yearning for just a chance to play for a championship -- who will be back year after year, win or lose -- it just doesn't seem fair. Do Marlins fans deserve this? The 15 or 16 real ones - the ones who stuck around after Miami was ripped off by Wayne Huizinga - probably do, the rest of the posers who've only been inside Pro Football Field just this year and who've jumped on the bandwagon since Dontrelle Willis arrived are a lucky bunch. Marlins fans? ? ? Yeah, I'm clearly just bitter.

For me, seeing the Yankees get into the Series doesn't get old. Why? Because as long as Steinbrenner is at the helm, a return to the 80s and early 90 is only a bad trade or two away. Steinbrenner has proven his ability to ruin this team, and it took him getting suspended for the Yanks to finally rebuild correctly. The product was the team that won 4 championships at the end of the 90s.
Instead of taking a step back to follow that pattern again, Steinbrenner is foolishly trying to keep this patchwork team together by depleting the minors and hoping the right pieces end up in the FA market. So, I'm sorry, but I have to root for my Yankees, because there is no telling of when Steiney's influence will revert this team back to it's losing ways.

These two series will long be replayed on ESPN, and we were privileged to have lived through them. I feel sorry for the people who can't let the joy of sports entertain them just because the 'wrong' teams won. If this post season doesn't excite you, you need to find a more suitable past time like soap operas or romance novels where the good guys always win, and the heroine always gets a handsome husband. |
