In my sim he retired after 2023, so yeah he rode out the guaranteed years on his deal. Reached 3,000 hits and 500 HR, put up a total of -3.0 WAR over the last two years of his deal.

It depends how much he plays. If he rides the bench, normally shuts it down after 2. Keep him on waivers and he’ll stop after 1. Gladly stay in the line up for multiple years too if you let him.

In mine, I desperately wanted him to get to 3000/500 so when I took over in 2021 I gave him basically full starter PT. Young team, wasn't good, I just let him play.

He got his 3000th hit that year and was at 493 HR. So the next year I backed off, gave him 300-400 PA as backup DH/1B every 10 games. He hit his 500th HR, as a team we won the World Series (leaving him off the Playoff roster), and he retired.

That was 2022 with 1 year left on his deal.

That's the trick I use if I see if my player is going downhill and fast to encourage the player to retire or be able to trade him because stuck with 10/5 rule

Not soon enough. He was great, but those days are gone...and he should step aside with grace. This short season could be a heckuva farewell tour.

I want both Miggy and Zimmerman to retire NOW but it would make no difference as Avila is just gonna keep his seat warm until their contract is done then the Tigers will make their move to get someone
