Too many abbreviations

Hi guys !

I really love the game and baseball also. I'm new at both as baseball is definitely not a popular sport in my country, so I'm discovering.

However, I'm struggling with all the abbreviations. I think the devs should add a pop-up with a short description, at least the full name of all the statistics abbreviation when hovering the mouse over an abbreviation. It seems impossible to remember all of them and they are present in all the menus of the game !

How do you guys manage to know what stands for what without a popup ??

And sometimes we still don't know, or think we do, and are wrong

Just the other day I was doing a quick study and thought that "FB" stood for fly balls. It actually stands for fly ball outs.

So, yeah, a better glossary of terms would be a good idea.

.... but don't you think the devs should add the tool tips in-game ? This would greatly simply our life ... no ?

Any change this happen one day, sooner or later ?

Most of us were raised on baseball and it only takes a few times of seeing them to learn them. I'm not opposed to the pop ups. Maybe get a baseball book on Amazon?

I don't think you are asking for something unreasonable. (Not speaking from a development point of view- I have no idea how easy or hard this sort of thing is.) I do think that as the game gets more attention there are more people being drawn to it who are not well versed in baseball. Which I think is great! And playing OOTP can be a great way to accelerate an education in the sport. But it can also overwhelm.

Yes, for someone who grew up with the sport many of the abbreviations are second nature, but as baseball statistics have blossomed in the sabermetrics era that might be a less safe assumption. Hang in there and if you really can't figure something out don't be shy about asking here. You'll find many experienced OOTP gamers and baseball fans willing to help.

But, yes, I like your idea.

As a French I had absolutely no idea of what baseball is ... I just knew that it's extremely popular in the USA. And I really like your country :-) So I guessed that if so many Americans love baseball, it must be for a good reason. So when I saw OOTP21 advertised on my Steam I was intrigued. Then I saw the great critics and I decided to give it a try. And also because I like sport management games. Also was attracted by the fact that numbers and statistics play an important role in the game. But first I had to understand the very basics of baseball, from scratch.

After a few weeks, I now understand the basic rules of this sport and I can watch matches with pleasure. I also watched the Moneyball movie and I'm currently reading the book. It's in fact an incredible sport ! And the game OOTP is great. So to answer your question: both, I'm becoming a fan of baseball and of OOTP.

But there's so much still to learn ! And that' the good news :-) Will take years to feel like an American about baseball (if ever) :-)

Baseball is becoming a passion :-)

I go to spring training game every year. Including the last game this year. At the last out they announced the rest of spring training was cancelled.

There are a multitude of ways to enjoy the game. I go to talk about the good old days with my cousin, and Moneyball which she mostly doesn't believe. My brother likes to sit out in the nice weather and drink beer.

Markus and Co need to use this in their advertising for OOTP 22.

I only have 2 French players in my league. Both are created by me but came over from High Heat & Hardball (games in the late 90's)

I'm not who you asked this question to (and this is my first post here), but this applies to me as well. I'm a big soccer fan, and a big player of the Football Manager series of sports management games. By chance I saw a SB Nation video where they used OOTP for something, and while I'm still very much mostly a soccer fan, OOTP clearly was the better developed video game from that perspective. After getting it it only confirmed what I saw. It has so many features that I desperately want in Football Manager. I feel like playing this is going to completely ruin my experience with FM, at least for the foreseeable future.

As to if it makes me a fan of Baseball too. Maybe. There's too much dead ball time in a real baseball game for my tastes, but OOTP you can skip past that (assuming you're not just simming the game entirely, but for now I've done pitch by pitch on a fair number of games, doesn't take too long if I do it sparingly).
