39-1 game???

AI just spit that one out in the fictional league that I've got set up. Will spare the league/game specifics unless anyone is interested, but whoa -- surprised the AI engine could come up with 39-1 in a regulation game if we're trying to keep things realistic!

That's nothing compared to the absurd 47-9 loss I had in a game I managed against The Royals, who came in with a winning percentage below .333!

In fairness, the last two innings were pitched by position players, because my bullpen was getting tired, and I was woefully behind already (18-6, in top of the eighth with one out, when I started bringing in the bench position players to the mound). They... didn't do well. Especially in the last inning, where they allowed 22 runs.

Have seen a couple high scoring games both on winning side and on losing side. To me its interesting to watch as in the game in lost the team that won scored 31 runs without benefit of home runs. However did benefit with lots of doubles

Yeah 39 is a bit much unless you are playing little league and then you have a mercy rule. I hate seeing **** like that but I guess we have to live with it from time to time. Overall OOTP does comes through. In truth I feel it is the best Baseball sim out there by far I just hope Perfect team (Though I want Markus to make as much money as he can) doesn’t dilute the original reason for the game. It makes sense you would concentrate on what makes the most bucks for you and it seems now more are playing Perfect team then Normal league play. So I guess it is a win win. 😁

It makes you wonder if standards are beginning to slip. I sure hope not.

I'd hate to be the pitcher who gave up that one run

Texas beat Baltimore 30-3

There are around 2500 games played a season

In OOTP millions of games are played every year
Of course there will be lots of crazy things happening

The trouble (If you can even call it trouble) is that OOTP is so far out in front of any other Baseball sim out there. It is truly the best there is so until someone can challenge it this is what we get. Don’t get me wrong, I think what we get is very good but I figure he will put more into Perfect Team because not only is it newer but it is also the cash cow. Markus has done a wonderful job all the way around for his company and for us to actually.

I lost a game 34-5 once. It was played in 1914 supposedly the Dead Ball Era.

Only time I've seen strange things like that is entire pitching rotations at 0%. Ai does an awful job managing it's arms with no off days for awhile. Especially noticeable in modern mlb files and if you are simming. I went 14 pitchers or my bullpen was gassed when the schedule was packed every single time.

Really noticed it in rookie ball where the tram had enough players to field a full team but no more. And there was like a total of 4 pitchers. So it was using all position players who were gassed.

The organization had like over 50 minor league injuries combined and you don't get errors if teams have enough to field a team. So if you don't catch it and sim a couple weeks you'll get about 10 games with 20+ runs in a row.

What was the context for the game? I had a recent incident in which a bad team had its bullpen wrecked when thanks to double headers and extra innings they played something like 55 innings over a four day series. Then with tired starters and exhausted relievers (none of whom were especially good when rested) they gave up 20+ in each game of the next series, including 34 in the opener. Of course a real team in that situation would've called up half of the AAA staff.

EDIT: or what jimmysthebestcop said...

I had a blowout win over the Brewers in which the AI used Josh Hader for 66 pitches as the last guy out of the bullpen. I'm not sure if the game has any parameters under which the AI will use a position player on the mound, but surely that should qualify.
