The most important person in building a franchise
Every decision you make is based on your estimate of the present and future of your players. You determine need by looking at overall ratings, and decide on trades by looking at potential.
All of that information filters through one figure in your organization: Your scouting director. Money spent for an SC is the best money you can spend, because it makes every decision a better one. Sure, even the best SC can be wrong -- you trade for a 51 and a season later he's a 42 -- but as with everything in OOTP, baseball and life, you're better off playing the odds. (Apologies if this is old news -- I've been playing the game a long time but haven't followed the forums much.) |

True dat!
In the previous versions of the game I always wanted the SD to highly favor tools. In OOTP 21 I have switched to highly favor ability. Seems more accurate and less likely to have busts in the draft. Not sure though. Once I hired Billy Bean as my scout. Learned that I cannot have a GM that highly favors OBP over AVG as my scout because he favors EYE far too much when rating players. |

You both probably already know this, but here's some scouting info from the manual.
The projection attribute has five settings: Highly Favor Ability, Favor Ability, Neutral, Favor Tools, and Highly Favor Tools. A Scouting Director that favors ability will base players' potential ratings on what the player can already do and project what he thinks the player will become in the future. The director that favors tools will base the players' potential ratings on the maximum peak the player could achieve. In theory, a scout that favors tools will find more superstars, while a scout that favors ability will find more serviceable major league players. |
